Over the years I've used several "organisers" and, apart from creating a database, the idea of having dedicated notebooks each with their own section and then to associate documents, is the artists equivalent of an endless canvas, and so much more. Even then freedom to sketch, organise, categorise, and to have exceptional access wherever whenever is a truly valuable asset. At first you may find its features a little intimidating and occasionally restricting, but that's all part of committing your day-to-day life to print and realising the benefit of order. As a student tool it excels, and as a researcher I find its combination of narrative, photographs whilst integrating Word, Excel and PDF documents, it reveals an exceedingly powerful and competent "friend". The opportunity provided by a device, storing each word or sketch without the worry of loosing valuable moments is a fundamental benefit. There are comparable applications but the one (Onenote) to note is Microsoft's vision of an integrated collection of Office 365 applications. Forgive the promo but for less than 8 per month Office 365 Home provides a suite of applications each with 1Tb of personal storage per user, for up to 6 users, for both personal and sharing, is a master stroke of Cloud innovation. Annual subscriptions I've noted are even cheaper. Onenote is evolving, synchronised with the future is a sure sign that this collection of applications, is always prepared to listen, always ready to evolve. Onenote is available free and a great opportunity to evaluate its potential. Also included as part of Office 365 Home.

It's with a heavy heart that I have finally decided to give up on OneNote, similar to how the developers have done so these pasts 2 years. What was once a staple piece of software for any note taking enthusiast, is now an abandoned tool with countless issues and no sign of any of them being fixed or any essential features being implemented. The app has issues, such as a second delay between when you tap and when the application decides to listen to your input, tables that were created on pc glitching on mobile, and sync issues. I have reported several bugs, and none of them have been fixed months later. Why? Because Microsoft decided to kill the only and only place where you could submit feedback (uservoice). Not only does this mean literal application breaking bugs do not get fixed anymore (even though Microsoft pushes an update every month with nothing apparent new), but no new user requested features has been acknowledged and implemented. In the past 2 years, there have only been two new features. Dark mode, and a pride month theme. 2 years for just 2 themes bug fixes which aren't noticeable. Meanwhile note taking competitors have utilised those 700+ days to add new features, content, and greatly enhance their user experience. With the release of a new alternative that I will not name, I have decided to jump ship and take my notes to a platform where they will receive love and have a bigger future than OneNote will ever have.

Using an iPad10.5 Pro, after upgrading from an iPad Air2 I expected Onenote to accelerate. O accept it may well be my fault but as an archivist and researcher I search and records numerous subjects. Subsequently this has grown to at least 50 different notebooks. Every opportunity to record a note or link I relied Onenote to be there when needed. Each notebook relates to a specific subject and sometimes data is cross-linked to another analytic reference. As with the former iPad Air, things began to slow down and before long after spending time online I would want to place a link and comment in an associated notebook. This became unusable as I was forced to wait whilst some feature (I assume checking for any updates) took forever. I the end I was forced to restart. I can't understand why such a delay occurs. Surely validating in real-time would eliminate any need for this cycle and the working page should be instantly available. It may be my fault even if I was using 100 notebooks it is difficult to comprehend why functionality stops, after all the number of notes must not be a factor, therefore the current page is the only relevant issue. I watch as each notebook is processed. unnecessary agony denies a simple update with wasting any time. The only other issue may be transient memory but using the browser and Onenote alone, the problem remains. (e&eo accepted)

This is a very nice app, full of useful features and well integrated with the cloud. Ive noticed 3 things so far that could do with improving. First and most importantly, you cannot select text using 3D Touch. When I press in, i can move the cursor but if I press in again, it just jumps back to typing mode without selecting anything. This makes selecting quite tedious compared with other apps and needs to be fixed asap.Another thing is, while I like the text box layout of OneNote because it lets you put text wherever you want, it glitches out when you try to move bigger boxes around. Its also quite fiddly to select a box to move it.Also, it can be a bit annoying when you have several boxes one below another and as you type the text, the box expands and the text starts to overlap with the text box below. It might be nice to have an option to shift the boxes as you type. I understand it might be tricky, in terms of logic, to find the balance between arranging the boxes and having them move automatically but I hope the devs can find a way.
