Rare Olympic Swimming Fifty Pence with the 'Lines Over The Face' variant design, still sealed in the original card from The Royal Mint.

These Aquatics coins were released ahead of the London 2012 Olympics and feature a swimmer moving through the water. On the standard 2011 Aquatics 50p, the swimmer's face is fully visible, but on this sought-after type, the face is obscured by watery lines.

Olympic Swimming 50p

This Aquatics coin was one of 29 Fifty Pences issued by The Royal Mint ahead of the London Olympics. Jonathan Oliffe's design shows a swimmer moving through the water with '50 PENCE' below and the 2012 Olympics logo above.

Lines Over The Face Error

Millions of standard Aquatics 50p coins were issued in 2011, but only around 600 feature an alternate early design which shows lines over the swimmer's face (the regular 50p has no lines). Genuine examples are highly sought-after.

Portrait Of Queen Elizabeth II

The obverse of this error coin features Ian Rank-Broadley's fourth definitive coinage portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, used on currency from 1998 to 2015. The legend reads 'ELIZABETH · II · D · G REG · F · D · 2011'.
