Huddersfield Town head coach Martin Drury insists his side wont get carried away with their opening-day victory over AFC Wimbledon.
The Terriers began their League One campaign with an impressive 3-0 win at Accu Stadium on Saturday, despite playing around an hour of the contest with ten men following Bali Mumbas dismissal.
Town sit top of the table after the opening weekend, and on his sides positive start, Drury told HTTV: I think its a foundation for us to grow from.
My ideal scenario is if you go down to ten men, you still dominate the ball, youre still creating chances and scoring goals, so thats where I would love us to get to. Today we didnt do that, but we still posed a threat when we got it back, and we still had some quality and we made some good decisions, so its something to build off.
We definitely dont get carried away with it. What I would say is, the best step forward is the character of the players, the spirit, and that relentless nature that I keep pushing and they keep driving themselves, so the credit has to go to what the players have done today, its full credit to them, to be down to ten men and see the game out as they did.
Derensili Sanches Fernandes got Town up and running on Saturday by netting an early brace on his league debut, and Drury said of the summer recruit: Its great to see (him playing with confidence), not just him, but the rest of the players, but hes got some talent.
I think hes integrating with the group really, really well. Hes not just a good player, but hes really good around the training ground, hes good on the pitch, hes got a real character about him. Hes quite dry, quite witty, but very humble alongside that, so I think the players have warmed to him really quickly, and I think hes building relationships with different players.
Obviously hes got the relationship with Ilias (Bronkhorst) already, but I think the other players are starting to understand what it is that he needs and what he wants, but also hes starting to understand whats demanded of him, particularly when we havent got the ball as well, which I thought he did today really, really well, so credit to him, but credit to the whole group.
I genuinely could stand here now and I could pick out every player. I dont think there was any player that took a step back today, I thought everyone took a real step forward today, and I was pleased with what they did, and Im full of admiration for how they went about it when we went down to ten men.
Bojan Radulovic rounded off the victory with a strike 12 minutes from time, and Towns head coach added on the forward: We know what Bojan brings. When we didnt have Bojan at the back end of last season, obviously George Sebine then stepped in and did a great job for a young player, so to have him back today was a big lift for everybody.
I think if you look at the profile of him, you look at the profile of Fletch (Ashley Fletcher) from the beginning of the game, theyve got similar profiles but different qualities, but its great for us as a staff to be able to bring Fletch off and to bring Bojan on.
Hes been out for a decent period of time, hes had some bad luck, as have some other players with injuries, but to get him on the pitch today was great, and I think the other players fed off that really, really well.
