The Honley Show is sure to be wonderful fun for families.

The volunteer team for the annual festivities have been taking on the heat preparing its Farnley Tyas Showground for the Saturday, June 27 event. This year, there are some changes to the layout with the Kennel Club dog show in a new position. The trade stands have also been arranged so visitors can shop all around the field.

The Honley Shows biggest tent to date, housing the rabbit and poultry sections, is expected to be extremely busy with poultry alone featuring over 130 classes, including live exhibits, arts and crafts, and novelty sections. There are also some new chicks hatching at the show if the timing goes according to plan.

Entries for most competitive classes are now closed though it may be possible to enter the light horse section on the day at the section secretarys discretion. The Grand Parade is expected to take place at around 4.15pm in the main ring - the organising team promise it will showcase the best of the best.

Entertainment will include slides, rides and displays and some very unusual guests such as aldabra giant tortoises. Adrian Graham, their owner, will be on the field and in the ring explaining his passion for these gentle giants.

Visitors can expect lots of food, drink and gift stalls. Ian Holmes, president of the Honley Show Society, said: It is an honour to be president of the Honley Show and to work with the dedicated band of volunteers who put on a great event every year for the people of Kirklees, and others, to enjoy.

The team assesses and revises the shows layout and structure every year and makes the changes necessary to ensure the following years show is as good as, if not better, than the year before. There are a number of changes to the layout, primarily to make the different sections of the Show more accessible. Keep an eye out for the plans displayed around the showfield and in the programme to make sure you dont miss anything.
