Google Pixel 10a plummets 100 as next generation Pixel 11 finally unveiled

Google has unveiled the latest additions to its Pixel smartphone series, and theyre due to land in a matter of days. On Wednesday (August 12), the tech giant lifted the lid on four Pixel 11 phones ahead of their August 20 launch.

On the way are the flagship models, alongside the Pixel 11 Pro, Pixel 11 Pro XL and Pixel 11 Pro Fold. Prices start at 879 when buying outright, but as often tends to happen when new smartphones are announced, the previous editions significantly drop in price.

Amazon has already knocked 100 off the Pixel 10a, with the 128GB variant reduced from 499 to 399 until August 20. This is the budget-friendly sibling to the standard Pixel 10, released earlier this year as a more affordable entry into the Pixel range.

It comes in a choice of four colours Berry, Fog, Lavender or Obsidian and a 6.3 Actua display thats strengthened with scratch and water-resistant Corning Gorilla Glass. Google says the Pixel 10a can run for more than 30 hours on a single charge, or a whopping 120 hours in Extreme Battery Saver mode.

The Pixel 10a is powered by Googles Tensor G4 processor and comes with seven years of software and security updates, plus new and upgraded features with Pixel Drops. It also boasts a wealth of Google Gemini AI features, which can make everyday life more efficient, as well as enhancing photos taken with the best-in-class 48MP wide and 13MP ultra-wide cameras.

While Amazons 399 price tag is a huge reduction from the usual price, some shoppers may prefer to spread the cost with a contract from retailers like Mobiles.co.uk. Here, the Pixel 10a also comes with free Pixel Buds 2a on iD Mobiles 200GB (was 100GB) tariff at 14.99 per month and 149 upfront.

Elsewhere, Sky Mobile has confirmed its prices for the new Pixel 11 and is offering up to 937 in savings with several concurrent pre-order deals. Monthly prices for the standard model start at 25 with 12 upfront, with customers just needing to add a data bundle if they require more than 100MB.

These include 75GB data at 14 per month (was 23), saving 216, while an enhanced trade-in deal will pay 300 extra on top of the value offered. As for the more affordable Pixel 10a, Deputy Technology Editor Henry Burrell highlighted a handful of exclusive features that make it a strong contender.

He said: Pixel-exclusive features such as Call Assist with call screening, call recording, Hold for Me and audio emojis are genuinely great reasons to choose a Pixel over other Android phones. Pixel 10a joins the other Pixel 10 phones by being able to natively share files to and from iPhone using Quick Share and AirDrop, as these technologies can now talk to each other on these phones.

Camera Coach makes its way over from the flagship Pixel 10 and 10 Pro, helping you line up and take photos with better framing, lighting and other tips. Youll also get perks such as Auto Best Take, which combines peoples best faces from a flurry of selfies or group shots, along with the ability to ask Google Photos to make edits for you by typing in a text prompt.

However, Henry also pointed out that the Pixel 10 is practically identical to its predecessor, adding: Youd be forgiven for mistaking it for last years Pixel 9a. The new phone has a practically identical design, with a dual camera cutout that is now completely flush with the back panel where the 9a had the tiniest of ridges.

Though slightly different, even Googles colour choices for the 10a are very similar to the 9a.

Despite this, Henry noted the longevity offered by Googles promise of software and security updates, saying: The Pixel 10a comes with the latest Android 16 and is promised seven years of software updates, which will take you to early 2033 before security updates stop.

Thats excellent longevity, though youll likely have to get a battery replacement if you plan on using this phone for that long.
