Tragedy at Camber Sands beach in East Sussex as man, 18, dies
Paramedics and police officers headed to the area.
A teen has sadly died after being pulled from the water at a popular beach in East Sussex. The 18-year-old got into difficulty at Camber Sands on Sunday night, along with two others - a 16-year-old boy and a 24-year-old man.
Poice said the three were known to each other and had travelled to the beach together from London. Sussex Police said emergency services rushed to the scene after being called just before 7pm on August 9 following reports of three people getting into difficulty after entering the water. The force said a large search operation took place and two of the three people, a 16-year-old boy and a 24-year-old man, safely got out of the water.
However, a third person, aged 18, was pulled from the water at around 7.30pm.
Sussex Police said: Sadly, despite lifesaving attempts by paramedics at the scene, he was pronounced deceased a short while later."
His next of kin have been informed, police added as they increase their presence in the area while inquiries are carried out.
A Sussex Police spokesperson also said: "Inquiries in the area remain ongoing and an increased emergency presence is visible at this time. There are no suspicious circumstances and this will now be a coronial matter."
A coastguard spokesman said: "At 6.37pm last night, HM Coastguard was called to an incident at Camber Sands, East Sussex.
"An HM Coastguard Search and Rescue Helicopter was sent, along with Pett Level lifeboat, Coastguard Rescue Teams from Rye Bay and Romney Marsh, Sussex Police and South East Coast Ambulance Service."
The man who died was initially reported to have been 24, but was later said to have been 18.
