Josh Drinkwater is set to join Hull FC in a coaching role for the 2027 season and beyond.

Hull Live understands that the Black and Whites have sounded out Drinkwater to be part of incoming head coach Steve McNamaras coaching team alongside Andy Last and Scott Taylor next year and are expected to complete a deal to land the Australian.

The 34-year-old, who played under McNamara at Catalans Dragons for four seasons across two spells, is currently at Championship outfit Oldham. However, a move into coaching is on the cards and Hull will be his first destination in a new career path, with Drinkwaters brother, Scott Drinkwater, confirming as much on the Matty Johns Show over in Australia this Sunday.

Debuting for NRL outfit St George Illawarra Dragons in 2013, Drinkwater has played over 275 career games, also featuring for Sydney-based outfit Wests Tigers.

He first appeared in England for London Broncos and has had spells at Leigh, Hull KR, and Warrington Wolves.

McNamara, who has signed a four-year deal with Hull, has been busy behind the scenes, working in tandem with CEO Richie Myler to assemble a new-look backroom staff.

Physiotherapist Nathan Mill will join the club from St Helens, with conditioner Jimmy McDaniel and physiotherapist Dave Ferguson also coming in.

On the playing front, Leigh Leopards full-back Bailey Hodgson and Catalans Dragons hooker Alrix Da Costa have both signed for 2027, with Hull also pulling off a sensational deal for NRL half-back Daly Cherry-Evans.
