Dans Pies of Pocklington earns more top food awards and sets about launching new bakery shop

An award-winning pie maker from Pocklington has done it again. Dans Pies has scooped two more Great Taste Awards, taking its tally of industry accolades to 13.

The small, family-run bakery saw its Steak & Wetherby Brew Ale Pie again being recognised with a Great Taste 1-Star Award for 2026, successfully retaining the honour it first received in 2025. Combined with its British Pie Awards Bronze Awards in 2025 and 2026, the meaty creation has now achieved an incredible four major awards, making it one of the businesss most decorated pies.

The bakery is equally proud that its Classic Steak Pie has received its first Great Taste 1-Star Award. This adds to the pies British Pie Awards Silver Awards in both 2025 and 2026, meaning it now proudly holds three major awards.

The Great Taste Awards are judged by hundreds of chefs, food writers, buyers and industry experts through a rigorous blind tasting process, making them one of the UKs most respected food accreditation schemes. Dan Leaver, owner of Dans Pies, said: To receive another two Great Taste Awards is an incredible feeling, especially after the last few weeks of moving into our new bakery.

We actually forgot the results were being announced, so it was a brilliant surprise to wake up to the news. Every award means so much because theyre judged purely on taste, and its fantastic recognition for all the hard work that goes into making every pie by hand.

Were a small family business, and to now have 13 industry awards is something were extremely proud of. Dans Pies recently relocated to a larger bakery just across the road from its original premises to support continued growth, while maintaining its commitment to producing handcrafted, award-winning pies.

For the first time, Dans Pies is opening a new shop within the bakery. This is due to launch this month, with the actual opening date to be confirmed. The shop will offer customers the chance to buy fresh and frozen pies to take home, as well as enjoy hot pies served with mash and gravy at lunchtime.

Over time, Dans Pies plans to introduce a range of artisan products from other local businesses, helping to showcase the very best of Yorkshire produce. Dans Pies can be found at markets across Yorkshire, through its local Pie Round delivery service, selected stockists, and from its bakery in Pocklington at Unit 1B Hampden Road, YO42 1NR
