According to fish finger experts, the nation has finally decided the right way to cut a fish finger sandwich: sliced vertically down the middle, through the fish fingers. Its a debate that has been around for 70 years - since Birds Eye first invented the Fish Finger - and new research found two-thirds of fish finger fans think that the right method is to cut through the fish fingers, instead of leaving them intact.

Some think you should cut through the middle, leaving the fish fingers intact, but just 15 per cent go for a diagonal slice through the sandwich. A third of people they have had a disagreement over the correct way to cut a fish finger sandwich.

Birds Eye has now updated its official Classic Fish Finger Sandwich recipe to reflect the nations preferred serving method.

Mark Schomberg, Head of Culinary at Birds Eye, said: As the inventors of the Fish Finger, weve seen plenty of passionate opinions over the years about the best way to enjoy a Fish Finger sandwich. When a customer reached out to see whether there was an official answer, we realised it was time to put it to the nation.

"The results show just how passionately Brits feel about how they serve a fish finger sandwich. The nation may be divided over the best way to slice the sandwich, but one thing is clear, everyone thinks that their way is the best.

"While the difference may appear modest, cutting the fish fingers in half helps release the steam and fresh goodness inside, dispersing the temperature, flavour and aroma throughout the sandwich. It also provides an even balance of crispy coating, succulent fish, and soft bread, providing a delicious mouthful with every bite.

"Fans told us it delivers a better bite and even improves the eating experience, so we simply had to update our Classic Fish Finger Sandwich recipe to provide some long-asked-for clarity. After more than 70 years, the nation has finally had its say. Of course, how you enjoy your fish finger sandwich is always down to personal preference. We think they taste great every way.
