An organic farm bakery known for its loaves and home-baked treats has been awarded a Gold Star at this years Great Taste Awards. The honour is not for a bake, however; the recognition goes to one of its tasty cordials.
Side Oven Bakery, at Carr House Farm, Foston on the Wolds, near Driffield, announced the news saying: We are national award winners! We are delighted that our Organic Ginger with Lemon Cordial has been awarded a Gold Star in this year's Great Taste Awards.
When we do tastings of this cordial at food festivals it is always the flavour that sells out and that just speaks for itself. It is a truly versatile drink too as in the winter it can be enjoyed as a lovely comforting hot drink or in the summer, simply mix with sparkling water for a very refreshing drink.
Made with real root ginger and real lemons (no chemical flavouring here!) we leave the fruits to infuse to allow the maximum flavour and goodness to develop. Side Oven Bakerys winning cordial is made on the farm alongside other organic cordials, including elderflower and blackcurrant, and apple juice.
More East Yorkshire food and drink producers have been successful at the Great Taste Awards, a trusted scheme run by the Guild of Fine Food and considered the Oscars of the food industry. Dans Pies of Pocklington came away with a 1-Star Award for its Steak & Wetherby Brew Ale Pie and also a 1-Star Award for its Classic Steak Pie.
Other producers earning accolades include:
3-Star Award
2-Star Award
1-Star Award
This year, over 15,000 products were entered into Great Taste from 3,919 companies in 116 countries, a record number, including products from nine countries entering for the first time. John Farrand, managing director, Guild of Fine Food, said: Food security is becoming an increasingly pressing issue across the globe, so it feels more pertinent now than at any other time in our thirty-year history to be supporting and promoting independent producers and retailers.
Our directory of award recipients is a rich source of data, guiding people from all walks of life to make informed decisions about their food and drink choices. Great Taste is all about celebrating craftsmanship and dedication to well-sourced local ingredients and traditional, often simple production methods, which is more important now than ever.
