A Danish retailer has become the latest store to herald its forthcoming opening at an East Yorkshire retail park. Signage is currently being fixed to the outside of a sizeable unit at Kingston Retail Park which is set to stir shoppers who love to spruce up their homes.
The new name on the block is JYSK, a home furnishings brand known for its stylish home furniture and accessories. JYSK pronounced yoosk is an international chain of stores with Scandinavian roots, that already has 27 stores across the UK, but until now its nearest shop has been in Scunthorpe, at the Lakeside Retail Park.
Likened to certain other Scandi brands, it sells everything for the home from the bedroom to the garden and specialises in sleeping products created by experts, from mattresses, duvets, and pillows to bedframes and bases. And the Danish lifestyle chain has already launched a recruitment drive for the store ahead of its opening, with adverts suggesting an October opening date.
The forthcoming opening will create 10 new jobs, so the company is on the hunt for sales assistants, a store manager and a deputy store manager, with job ads highlighting how its employees are key to our success. That is why we strive to offer development and possibilities of growing and finding new challenges within JYSK".
The adverts also include how the company has internal contests between stores with attractive prizes, how they have social activities, bonuses, flexible working schedules and 20% discounts across the group of companies. The new opening forms part of wider expansion plans for the business, which revealed ambitions too open up to 100 stores in major European cities.
Bosses said that it is aiming to launch new shops in major cities and in central locations across Europe, to make the great offers for the home that the brand is already known for even more accessible to people living in major cities.
In May, Rami Jensen, President & CEO of JYSK, announced: With more than 3,600 stores primarily across Europe, JYSK is already widely established and known for our great offers in many places. But there is still room for more JYSK stores when we look at the map of Europe, and we want to get even closer to the many customers who live in European capitals and other key cities.
In a country like Denmark, where our founder Lars Larsen opened his first JYSK store 47 years ago, we are well established and widely recognised by customers. And in many other countries across Europe, we still see significant potential. That is why we are putting more effort into opening new stores in countries where we are already present and have local knowledge of the market.
A spokesman for the company said the firm chose Hull as the location for a new store because it is a vibrant and growing city with a strong local community and a great fit for its continued expansion in the UK.
The spokesman added: Were incredibly excited to be bringing JYSK to Hull and to become part of the local community. Hull is a fantastic fit for our continued growth in the UK, and were looking forward to giving customers in the city and surrounding areas the opportunity to discover our Scandinavian-inspired range of furniture, homeware and sleeping products at great value.
JYSK opened its first store on the outskirts of Aarhus in 1979, and since then, most JYSK stores have been located in small and medium-sized towns, or on the edge of larger cities. Before the end of this month JYSK plans to open up to 30 new stores in major cities and the remaining approximately 70 will open over the next two financial years, up to the end of August 2028.
The launch of JYSK comes 14 months after IKEA opened its Plan & Order Point at Kingston Retail Park in Hull.
