Garda have said enquires are ongoing

The body of a man was discovered on a beach in Sligo on Monday night.


The body, which was found on a beach at Easkey, Co Sligo, is believed to be that of a fisherman who had gone missing last Sunday, July 5, RT reports.


Irish Coast Guard crew, as well as members of the Grinne aile Sub Aqua Club, Mayo Search and Rescue Unit and Ballyglass RNLI Lifeboat, launched into action on Sunday, July 5 after an angler was reported missing at Downpatrick Head in Mayo. The national broadcaster reports that the angler, who is understood to have been a foreign national, fell from a cliff while fishing.


A spokesperson for the Department of Transport told the Irish Mirror: "The initial search began on 5 July as a Search and Rescue mission that involved, R118, R120F, Killala CGU, Ballyglass CGU, Ballyglass RNLI, Civil Defence and An Garda Sochna.

"It subsequently transitioned to a Search and Recovery Mission in the afternoon of 6 July, which then became a Garda-coordinated mission."

A Garda spokesperson told the Irish Mirror: "Garda were alerted to the discovery of a body on the beach at Easkey, Co Sligo, at around 9:30pm on 13 July 2026.

"The body of the man has been transferred to the morgue at Sligo University Hospital, where a post-mortem examination will take place in due course. The results of the examination will determine the course of the Garda investigation. Enquiries are ongoing."
