Brutal machete, wheel brace and acid attack as man left with atrocious face injury

A man was left with horrific injuries to his eye and a bloodied face following the brutal scrap which first broke out on Shop Street in Tuam, Co Galway last Friday evening.

A man sustained a horrific injury during the incident.

A man has been arrested after a violent scrap involving a machete, acid and a wheel brace played out on the streets of a Galway town.


A man was left with horrific injuries to his eye and a bloodied face following the brutal scrap which first broke out on Shop Street in Tuam, Co Galway last Friday evening.


Shocking video footage has since emerged showing a number of men engaged in a brawl outside an opticians in front of horrified passers-by.


At one point in the video a man can be seen using a wheel brace as he reigns down several blows on another in the street.

As the row continues a man is heard shouting he started this, as others shout and scream while the brawl continues.

The victim is at this point already covered in blood as another man is seen spraying what appears to be a substance in his direction.


A gruesome picture has also emerged of the victim covered in blood and with serious wounds around one of his eyes.

Sources have told the Irish Mirror that acid was used in the attack - as well as a machete and the wheel brace.

One of the men involved in this altercation sustained a horrific injury to his forehead.


It comes amid a violent feud in the area which has escalated in recent days.

Gardai subsequently arrested a man in relation to the row - while three men ended up in hospital from the incident.

A garda spokesperson said that officers responded to a report of an incident of violent disorder at Shop Street, Tuam, Co Galway, at around 9:20pm on 31st July 2026.


Three men (aged in their 30s and 40s) were brought to University Hospital Galway for treatment of serious but non-life-threatening injuries, the spokesperson said.

A man, aged in his 40s, has been arrested as part of the investigation and is being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a station in the Garda North Western Region.

Garda are appealing to anyone who may have been in the Shop Street area between 9:00pm and 9:30pm and has camera footage (including dash cam or mobile phone recordings) to make this footage available to investigating Garda.
