Gardai appeal for witnesses to come forward after man survives daylight shooting in Limerick

The victim was shot in the chest and was seriously injured in the attack. He is now stable in hospital.

Gardai are today hunting two gunmen behind an attack that left a man seriously injured.


The victim, who is in his 60s, is being treated for his injuries after he was targeted in broad daylight in Limerick on Sunday afternoon.


It happened on Hyde Avenue, Ballinacurra Weston in the city at around 4.30pm. Its understood the man was shot several times as he stood outside a house there. Its believed he was hit in the chest - and his attackers were masked and used bicycles to get to and from the scene.


The victim was rushed to University Hospital in Limerick where he was being treated for what gardai say are serious injuries. His condition is now stable.

Gardai are now trying to establish a motive for the attack. Gardai have now appealed for witnesses to come forward.


The force said in a statement: Garda and emergency services attended the scene following report of the incident, which occurred at approximately 4:30pm.

A male aged in his 60s was conveyed to University Hospital Limerick to be treated for serious injuries. His condition is described as stable. The scene is currently preserved for technical examination.

The force added: Garda are appealing for any witnesses to this incident to come forward.

Any person who was in the vicinity of the Hyde Road, Ballinacurra Weston area on the afternoon of Sunday 19th July 2026 between 3.45pm and 4.45pm and who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) is asked to make this footage available to Garda.
