Teenager arrested after pistol, ammo and heroin seized in Limerick

A teenager was arrested after Garda seized heroin, a pistol and ammo following a house raid in Limerick.


As part of ongoing investigations into organised criminal activity and the sale and supply of drugs in the area, officers in the Limerick Divisional Drugs Unit searched a residential property at Island Road in the Treaty City on Sunday, August 9.


They seized an automatic pistol, ammunition and suspected diamorphine with an estimated street value of 21,700 following the search.


An adult male in his late teens was arrested and has been detained at a station in the Garda Southern Region under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act 2007.

A Garda spokesperson said the drugs will be sent to Forensic Science Ireland for analysis and that the firearm and ammunition will be forwarded for technical examination by the Ballistics Section of the Garda Technical Bureau.

They added that investigations into the seizure are ongoing.

The spokesperson said: "As part of ongoing investigations into organised criminal activity and the sale and supply of drugs in the area, Garda in Limerick seized a pistol, ammunition and diamorphine in Limerick on 9 August."
