One of the five people killed in the M9 road horror turned 15 just a few months ago, it has emerged.

And, as Garda continue their probe into Sunday mornings crash in Co Kildare, the Irish Mirror has also learned that all but one of the dead were juveniles.

One victim, who was from Athy in Co Kildare, celebrated his 15th birthday in April. Another turned 18 in June. He was from Carlow. Another victim was 17 and was also from Co Carlow. The fourth victim was a month away from his 18th birthday. He was a native of Co Limerick.

The final teen to die in the crash was 17 and was also from Athy. The names of the deceased have not yet been formally released by Garda, but the force has appointed liaison officers for each family.

And liaison officers have also been appointed for the families of the occupants of the Hyundai car that was struck by the stolen BMW in which the five teens were travelling.

The BMW is suspected of driving at more than 120 km/h when it crashed into the Hyundai near junction three of the M9 in Kildare at around 3am on Sunday.

The occupants of the Hyundai, three women and a young child, were from the same extended family from Carlow. They were all lucky to survive the crash, but suffered serious injuries.

The boy, aged just seven, is being treated at Crumlin Childrens Hospital. The female driver and front seat passenger are critically ill in Tallaght University Hospital in south Dublin.

And the woman who was in the back seat beside the boy is in a serious condition at St. Luke's General Hospital in Kilkenny.

Gardai in Athy are continuing their investigation into the crash, but the M9 was fully reopened to traffic on Monday morning.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Athy Garda Station on 01 666 6000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.

Independent policing watchdog Fiosr is carrying out a separate investigation into Garda interactions with the stolen BMW in the run up to the crash.
