A man has received a horrific eye injury after a gunman opened fire through a bedroom door at an apartment in Co Galway.
The shocking incident occurred at a property in Dunlo, Ballinasloe, Co Galway in the early hours of Bank Holiday Monday.
It is understood a gunman gained entry to the apartment and attempted to shoot the victim - a man in his 20s, at around 3:15am.
Shots were fired through a bedroom door - with the victim then being wounded in the eye before the attacker fled.
The incident comes amid feuding violence in the area in recent months.
The victim was rushed to University Hospital Galway where he is being treated for what gardai have described as non-life-threatening injuries.
Gardai are now carrying out door-to-door enquiries and are attempting to harvest CCTV footage from the area as they work to identify the shooter.
In a statement issued on Monday gardai said:
Garda are investigating all the circumstances in relation to the discharge of a firearm at a residence at Dunlo, Ballinasloe, Co Galway, on Monday 3rd August 2026.
Garda and emergency services attended the scene following a report of the incident, which occurred at approximately 3:15am. A male aged in his 20s was conveyed to University Hospital Galway to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The scene is currently preserved for technical examination.Garda are appealing for any witnesses to this incident to come forward.
Any person who was in the vicinity of the Cln Eiscir Riada area on the morning of Monday 3rd August 2026 between 2:30am and 4:00am and who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) is asked to make this footage available to Garda.
