A family who were lucky to escape with their lives after a devastating house fire destroyed their home are facing the heartbreaking task of rebuilding from scratch after it emerged they had no insurance.
The blaze, which broke out on Monday night in Ashbourne, Co Meath, completely destroyed the Quinn family's home and claimed most of their personal belongings, leaving them homeless.
Shocking images have revealed the devastating aftermath of the fire that left the family home completely destroyed.
Photographs from the scene show the extent of the destruction, with both the interior and exterior of the property left gutted by the fire and most of the family's personal belongings destroyed.
A local councillor has since launched a GoFundMe appeal, with the family's permission, to help them rebuild their lives following the devastating loss.
Cllr Joe Bonner set up the fundraiser, with the familys full permission, and so far it has raised over 11,000 from 110 generous donors within hours of it being set up. The target is 200,000.
Writing on the Donate to help local Ashbourne family rebuild their home fundraiser, Cllr Bonner said: Thankfully the family were unharmed.
Sadly, the family did not have insurance cover and are now facing the overwhelming challenge of rebuilding their lives, replacing essential items and finding stability after this heartbreaking event.
The family are well known in the Ashbourne community.
With the familys full permission, this fundraiser has been set up to give our community an opportunity to come together and support them during this extremely difficult time.
The family are the sole beneficiaries of this fundraiser.
All donations will be paid directly to them.
The money raised will go towards urgent and essential works, replacing necessary items, and supporting them as they begin the difficult process of recovering from this loss.
Any donation, no matter how small, will make a meaningful difference. Sharing this fundraiser with others would also be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance for any support you give to this Ashbourne family at this difficult time, wrote Cllr Bonner.
