Two children rushed to hospital after Galway house fire as Gardai preserve scene

The incident took place at a property on the Ballymoneen Road in Knocknacarra

Two children were rushed to hospital after a house fire in Co Galway yesterday.


The incident took place at a property in Sli Gheal estate on the Ballymoneen Road in Knocknacarra.


Emergency services and Gardai were first alerted to the blaze at around 6:30pm on Thursday.


Fire crew initially managed to extinguish but it re-ignited after midnight again and they returned to the scene.

Two youngsters were taken to University Hospital Galway with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Irish Mirror understands that foul play isn't suspected.

In a statement, Gardai said: "Garda and emergency services responded to reports of a fire at a residential property on Ballymoneen Road, Knocknacarra, Galway at 6:30pm on 6th August 2026.

"Two children were brought by ambulance to University Hospital Galway for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

"The fire was extinguished by the local fire service, who attended the scene again after midnight as the fire re-ignited. The scene has been preserved for a technical examination.

"Enquiries are ongoing."
