A woman was doused in petrol and set on fire after answering her front door to members of a crime gang over a small drugs debt, Gardai believe.
The terrifying attack played out in broad daylight at the womans home in Oak Downs, Clondalkin, West Dublin at around 10am on Tuesday morning. The attackers, who are suspected to be linked to a local criminal gang, sprayed the woman in the face with an accelerant- before setting her alight and fleeing the scene.
Sources say her partner, who was also targeted in the attack at the front door, managed to duck the accelerant, and then desperately tried to put out the flames with his own hands. Gardai are investigating if an alleged debt the gang claimed to be owed sparked the terrifying assault. Gardai do not believe the attack to be random, and it is understood this incident follows ongoing intimidation in the area.
Horrified locals were alerted to the sound of the woman screaming - and when they looked out the window saw the unimaginable sight of her covered in flames. Speaking at the scene one local told us: I heard screaming. I looked outside and saw her standing in the front garden, completely in flames. Her partner was trying to put the fire out and he was on the phone to the emergency services. She was on fire from the top down to her stomach.
The woman was rushed to Tallaght Hospital, where she was being treated for serious burn injuries to her face and body. It is understood her condition is critical, and sources say that she has suffered life changing injuries. Her partner was also taken to hospital - and his injuries are understood to be non-life-threatening.
It is understood that the couple were confronted at their house on Monday evening. A number of people called to their home and are alleged to have made threats. Gardai were alerted to the scene but upon arrival, no complaint was made.
In a statement tonight, Gardai confirmed they attended the house the day prior to the arson. "Garda attended the scene of a residence in Oak Downs, Clondalkin, Dublin 22 on Monday 25th November 2025 at approximately 4:45pm. No offence disclosed," a Garda spokesperson said.
Justice Minister, Jim Callaghan, TD said on social media: "I am shocked by this mornings horrific attack on a woman in Clondalkin. I have been briefed on the attack by the Garda, and I join with them in appealing to anyone with information to come forward so that the perpetrator of this vicious attack can be brought to justice."
The incident has been met with shock and anger within the area, which is a quiet estate located just off the Boot Road in Clondalkin. Speaking to this paper about the incident, local councillor Francis Timmons said: Im shocked to hear of such a horrific incident. This quiet local community is in shock. My thoughts are with this lady who has suffered horrendous burns after opening her front door.
Id appeal to anyone with information to contact the gardai who are asking for anyone who was in the Oak Downs area of Clondalkin from between 9:30am and 10:20am this morning and who may have video footage to make this footage available to gardai, he added.
In a statement gardai said they are investigating the incident of assault, which they said occurred at approximately 10:10am. A woman has been removed from the scene to hospital to be treated for burn injuries which are believed to be serious, a garda spokesperson said. A man has been taken to hospital to be treated for injuries believed to be non-life threatening.
A Senior Investigating Officer has been appointed and an incident room has been established In Clondalkin Garda Station. Garda are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed either incident to contact them. Any persons who were in the Oak Downs area of Clondalkin between 9:30am and 10:20am this morning and who may have video footage (including dash-cam) are asked to make this footage available to investigating Garda.
