Ger Brennan reveals what he will tell Dublin stars that are thinking of retirement

It could be the end of the road for some Dublin stars after Sunday's All-Ireland semi-final loss to Kerry.

Ger Brennan will be urging his heartbroken Dublin players to not rush into any decisions regarding their playing future.

Dublins defeat to Kerry on Sunday brought down the curtain on another Sam Maguire-less season for the Dubs, with thoughts immediately turning to next season and whether or not there will be any retirements over the winter.

No one told me that directly (that they had retirement thoughts)," said Brennan.

Theres obviously a lot of guys there with massive miles on the clock, so I don't know.

I will be advising them not to make any decisions in the next 4-6 weeks. Just take a breather, go away for a couple of weeks.

I think the club championship starts two weeks after the All-Ireland final in the middle of August. I would be advising players not to make any big decisions until they've had a bit of a break.

Some may be at the end of their Dublin journey, but Brennan is still at the beginning. After a first season disrupted by a 12-week suspension, the Dubs boss was asked to sum up his tenure to date.

Bit a roller coaster wasnt it? chuckled Brennan.

We set out at the start to trawl the county, which we're doing on a weekly/fortnightly basis, where we've a set of boys out watching games.

Before today's match, Brian Cullen with Johnny Cooper launched a new Dublin Way strategy to unite the Dublin academies underage. Another strategic plan there, so that in itself is a huge positive.

And then, the work that myself, the management team, the backroom team are doing with players and out scouting games, we're certainly doing as much as we can to ensure that we're giving every fella playing and who is eligible to play senior football for Dublin to give them a chance.
