RT have announced that they will show Katie Taylor's Croke Park fight live next month in the Republic of Ireland.

The broadcaster will show Taylor's bout with France's Flora Pili free-to-air on both RT Two and the RT Player on September 5. There will also be live radio commentary on 2FM.

The trailblazing London 2012 Olympic gold medallist and legendary, multi-weight world champion will bid to sign off her remarkable career in style when she faces Pili for all the major titles in the super-lightweight division.

And RT have reached a deal with Matchroom Boxing and DAZN to show the event live.

RT Head of Sport Declan McBennett said: RT was there at the start of Katies journey as an amateur and we are delighted to be there for the final chapter. Katie is, and always will be, one of Ireland's greatest ever sporting icons and it is fitting that she ends her illustrious career in Croke Park in front of a full stadium and a national audience.

RT will take DAZNs feed of the event but will add its own presentation, including having its own personnel on the ground.

Asked on RTs Morning Ireland how much it had paid for the rights, Mr McBennett said it was commercially sensitive.

Pressed on whether Government support was being provided to RT for the fight, he said it was not.

However, he acknowledged there were probably areas elsewhere in the organisation that will maybe not have as much wriggle room as they wanted to.

Matchroom Sport Chairman Eddie Hearn added: Saturday, September 5 is the night when Katie Taylor will bring Ireland to a standstill. A night that will be immortalised forever.

I cannot think of a more fitting way to honour Katies remarkable career by sharing this special night with millions of her loyal Irish fans, live on RT and it is all thanks to our partners at the Global Home of Boxing, DAZN for allowing this event to be broadcast via FTA in Ireland.

This will be an unforgettable evening with 80,000 in attendance at Croke Park. Katie is without question the greatest of all time.

"She will be determined to sign-off in style and capture the Undisputed crown. And for that, she absolutely deserves all the support she can get as reward for such a magnificent career.

Taylor admitted she has been blown away by the support of the Irish people after tickets for the Croke Park event sold out in under 30 minutes.

"Im actually blown away," she said. "Its been an amazing few weeks since the fight was announced, even on that bus tour going around the country. I felt like a pop star.
