Sausages might seem simple to prepare since all you need to do is warm them in a pan, but if you cook them in oil, they can wind up with an unappealing texture and a fairly tasteless flavour.

While frying sausages is the most common approach, it frequently leads to sausages that are burnt on the outside yet raw and pink on the inside.

Air frying is one of the newest methods of cooking sausages; however, this can often result in them becoming dried out.

Alternatively, there is a more straightforward cooking technique that delivers juicier, more flavoursome and crispier outcomes, and that is baking in the oven.

Third-generation butchers behind British Sausage say that "oven baking is the easy, convenient way to enjoy sausages".

They claimed that by cooking sausages in the oven, you end up with "juicy" and "mouth-watering flavour" you are not able to achieve with frying.

Preparing sausages in a frying pan is a rapid process, but it can result in burning, sticking, and oil splashing, creating a larger mess to sort out afterwards.

Conversely, baking sausages in the oven produces superior results because the milder heat enables the fat to melt slowly, guaranteeing they cook uniformly.

While it may take more time for sausages to cook in their own fat, this approach ensures even cooking, enabling the skin to brown beautifully and retaining all the delicious juices inside.

Cooking sausages in the oven not only results in a crispier, more flavoursome finish, but is also far more convenient, guaranteeing the best possible outcome every time.

How to cook sausages in the oven

Here is the straightforward oven method for cooking sausages. It works for pork sausages, beef sausages, Cumberland sausages, chipolatas and most traditional butcher's sausages.

Begin by heating the oven to 200C/180C Fan/Gas Mark 6 and lay the sausages out on a baking tray. Lining the tray with foil or baking paper will make the washing-up considerably easier.

If your sausages are particularly lean, add a light drizzle of oil. Most traditional sausages contain sufficient fat and won't require much extra.

Pop the tray into the oven and cook for 25 to 30 minutes, turning the sausages halfway through to ensure they brown evenly on all sides.

Once fully cooked, the sausages should be a rich golden brown on the outside and piping hot all the way through.

All that remains is to dish up the sausages alongside your preferred accompaniments, such as mashed potatoes, chips, fried eggs, baked beans, gravy, or tucked inside a bread roll.
