In a conference programme largely composed of scientists, researchers, and technical experts from biomedical, biological, and computational fields, Vasilis brought the perspective of a founder and entrepreneur building a deeptech venture in fermentation, contributing a practical and business-oriented viewpoint to the discussion. His talk, Building an AI Venture in Fermentation: A Founders Perspective on Product, Operations, and Cross-Disciplinary Teamwork, focused on the realities of translating scientific and technical complexity into practical, scalable innovation, including product development, operational execution, interdisciplinary collaboration, and the challenges of building technology-driven ventures in emerging sectors. Freyia Labs Ltd had its own booth, where we presented our work, met founders, investors and ecosystem partners, and took part in one of Cypruss most dynamic innovation events. Our Co-Founder & CEO, Greta Skemaite, pitched F.O.R.S.E.T.I.X.(FiX) on the rotating Big Dome Stage. Pitching while the entire stage was moving was a genuinely unusual and slightly crazy experience, and certainly one we will remember. At the same time, our CTO, Peter Anders Hvass, delivered his speech on the Arcade Stage. Our participation was made possible through Cyprus Seeds, and we are sincerely grateful for the opportunity, trust and support. Exploring my passion for otaku culture after returning to Cyprus from my studies, I took the initiative to organize parties and events that not only raised money for charitable causes but also increased awareness of university exchange and scholarship programs available for Cypriot students in Japan.

One notable event was an anime-themed music and cosplay party that raised funds for the Red Cross in support of their disaster response to the Tohoku earthquake and tsunami of 2011. I also organized a Japanese culture festival, designed to resemble a traditional matsuri, which included authentic dress, games, music, and decor. The event was sponsored by the Japanese Embassy in Athens, further solidifying its cultural significance.
These events brought together a community that lives to this day as well as a diverse group of local artists interested in manga and other art styles. Some of these artists even managed to travel to Japan for university programs, in part thanks to the awareness raised by our events. Moreover, these gatherings helped raise awareness of cosplay, leading to the development of a thriving local community of crafters in the years that followed.
The events I organized also played a significant role in promoting anime and manga in Cyprus, fostering a large community of fans and enthusiasts. These efforts laid the groundwork for what would eventually become the founding of Cyprus Comic Con. Through these cultural events, I successfully connected individuals with shared interests, provided opportunities for growth and exchange, and contributed to the enrichment of the local community.
