Incoming or Current Georgetown Tax LLM Students: Im looking for a few of you Our Private Client Services and Tax Controversy and Litigation team in McLean, VA is opening externship opportunities for the coming academic year, and Id like to hear from students who are serious about this work. What we do sits at an unusual intersection. We handle some of the most sophisticated estate and gift tax and charitable giving matters in the country; the ones where the Code runs out, the regulations shrug, and judgment takes over. The answer is rarely on the first page. Its usually in the fourth footnote, in a forty-year-old ruling, or in the fact pattern nobody thought to ask about. Clients bring us their hardest questions because they trust us to get them right, and that trust is earned one difficult answer at a time. Thats the distinction I care about most. There is a difference between having a tax practice and building a career as a trusted advisor to people who need one. The second takes longer. It is learned the way it has always been learned, which is sitting next to lawyers who have been doing it for decades, doing the careful work, and getting better at it every year. The people I most admire in this field were in no hurry, and it shows in their judgment. If thats the kind of career youre after, we should talk.
