Much-loved bakery, The Butterholic, has been named one of the best in the UK - for a particular item. The popular Speke eatery supplies goods to Aigburth's Lunko by the Lane, a go-to venue for many whether it be for its filled croissants or Portuguese favourite pastel de nata.
The Little Parkfield Road shop has gone viral on TikTok numerous times and has customers waiting hours to get their hands on some of the goodies on offer. The venue, found just off Lark Lane, is the brainchild of Adelina Blanaru and Marius Dogaru.
The married couple, originally from Romania, moved to Kirkby in 2015, after briefly living in Paris while Marius trained as a pastry chef. The couple launched The Butterholic during the pandemic, taking online orders and supplying venues across Merseyside - including Lunko by the Lane.
It was revealed today, Thursday, September 26, that Marius and the team made it to the final of the Best Croissant UK 2024 competition. The 30-year-old chef brought his freshly baked croissants to The Savoy in London, where expert judges tasted them. Although he didnt win, Marius did say it was an honour to be amongst the best.
In a post shared to social media, he added: Congratulations to all the finalists, it was great to meet the other fellow bakers. It was our first competition and we are very proud of ourselves. Thank you to the people who voted for us, organiser and judges.
Speaking to the ECHO about the final, Adelina said: " We are absolutely thrilled to have made it to the final of the Best Croissant UK competition in London. Its been an incredible journey for our bakery and we are so proud of how far weve come. Our Executive Pastry Chef, Marius, and our Head Baker, Jack, were especially happy to meet with fellow bakersand receive such amazing feedback about our croissants from them.
"Our team worked really hard and we are honoured to have had the opportunity to represent Liverpool in such a fantastic competition. Were truly thankful to everyone who voted for us and supported us along the way."
The news comes days after the company announced it would be expanding into the Baltic Triangle with another venue. The couple posted a video to Instagram announcing the location of their next venue with the caption coming soon - Lunko 2.0.
