Passengers travelling on Merseyrails Northern Line are facing major disruption this afternoon (Tuesday, August 18). The disruption is due to a signalling fault at Liverpool Central.
Services on the Southport, Ormskirk, Headbolt Lane via Kirkby and Hunts Cross lines are currently affected. Merseyrail said rail replacement buses have been requested.

Services on the Southport and Headbolt Lane lines have now returned to normal.
Ormskirk and Hunts Cross continue to face minor disruption.
Services on the Headbolt Lane line are returning to normal but some services may face delays or cancellations, or may start and terminate at Sandhills, following a signalling fault at Liverpool Central.
Services on the Southport line are returning to normal but may still face delays or alterations, following a signalling fault at Liverpool Central.
Services on the Ormskirk and Hunts Cross lines are returning to normal but may still face delays or alterations, following a signalling fault at Liverpool Central.

Ticket acceptance is now in place on all available Arriva bus services and StageCoach bus routes 20, 21, 28 and 86, due to disruption on the Northern line.
Headbolt Lane line services will start and terminate at Sandhills. Some train services from the Southport line are still operating between Sandhills & Liverpool stations.
Rail Replacement buses have been requested to operate between Walton and Hunts Cross stopping at Moorfields, at no extra cost but are not yet in operation.
Ticket Acceptance has been granted on Arriva bus services, at no extra cost. Ticket Acceptance has been granted on StageCoach bus routes 20. 21, 82 and 86, at no extra cost.
Hunts Cross line services are suspended between Walton & Hunts Cross in both directions.Ormskirk line services remain in service between Ormskirk & Walton in both directions.
