Bluey movie release date as cast confirmed

The much-anticipated feature-length film of the global hit animated series Bluey is set to hit cinemas on August 6, 2027. The popular Australian programme, which centres around a family of heeler dogs, has taken the world by storm.

Joe Brumm, the creator of Bluey, will be at the helm of the movie, both writing and directing it.

The production will be handled by Ludo Studio, the creators of the show, in partnership with BBC Studios.

The storyline revolves around an energetic and imaginative blue heeler named Bluey, her younger sister Bingo, and their parents, Chilli and Bandit.

Fans can expect familiar voices from the series in the film, including Melanie Zanetti voicing Chilli and David McCormack lending his voice to Bandit.

While the typical episode length is about seven minutes, Brumm experimented with a longer format for the final episode of the third series in 2024.

Reflecting on this, he said: "I really enjoyed the experience of working with a longer format on The Sign in series three, so going even further with a feature film feels like a natural extension of that.

"I've always thought Bluey deserved a theatrical movie.

"I want this to be an experiential event for the whole family to enjoy together."

Bluey has a vast international audience, being available in over 140 countries.

It holds the top spot for children's shows on CBeebies and Disney+ in the UK.

In 2024, it was the most-watched series worldwide on Disney+, as reported by the Walt Disney Company.

The show has also been recognised with numerous accolades, including a 2024 Peabody Award and consecutive Television Critics Association Awards in 2023 and 2024.

Disney is set to launch the Bluey film in cinemas globally, before it becomes available for streaming on Disney+.
