A guest on Antiques Roadshow was left speechless after learning the value of a family heirloom, a diamond brooch.

During a repeat episode broadcast on Sunday, August 2, Fiona Bruce and her team were filming at Brodie Castle and Estate, Morayshire when jewellery expert Susan Rumfitt spoke to one lady who was completely unaware of the remarkable value of a the piece.

Susan began: "This is a magnificent brooch, I hope you wear it every day." The guest replied: "I do wear it in the evening, if I'm going out," while explaining she owned several other pieces but this one was "the star of the show".

She went on: "It's come down through the family from my grandmother. She was a farmer's wife but got dressed up in the evening, that sort of thing."

The brooch was valued at 20,000

Susan revealed how the brooch originated from the 1930s, "the height of the art deco period," reports the Express. "So I can imagine your grandmother really having a wonderful time putting this brooch on. It's got a sense of theatre about it, it plays away on its own with its beautiful diamonds."

"It's magnetic," the guest replied, as Susan revealed how, despite the Wall Street crash and the Depression, there was a concentration on diamonds when Chanel collaborated with De Beers.

Complimenting the "beautiful sparkle" of the brooch, she remarked: "It's quite unusual, it's one brooch, so that again, is pretty stunning."

While the guest had estimated the brooch to weigh approximately 3-carats, she was astounded to learn it could be closer to 14.

The guest was left speechless

She exclaimed: "Oh my goodness, really?!" Her astonishment grew further upon discovering the brooch's true worth, with Susan disclosing it could fetch around 20,000.

Momentarily lost for words, the guest responded: "It's taken my breath away."

"It brings tears to my eyes," she added, pledging to keep wearing it. "That is a shock."

She later added to the camera: It was a really, really big surprise. Im still quaking a bit at the moment.

Susan also said: Its been wonderful, been fantastic to find it. And to make somebodys day as well when they had no idea it was going to be worth as much as it was. Its just stunning, fantastic.
