Enzo Maresca pulled no punches when asked whether we can expect to see more transfer business from Manchester City this summer during the pre-season tour.
"We are talking with Hugo and the club about some players, for sure we are going to do something, we are looking at different positions," the City head coach said.
Elliot Anderson's arrival has bolstered a midfield that will be without Bernardo Silva for the first time in nine years next season, but with Rodri now a Barcelona player and City in talks over Lille sensation Ayyoub Bouaddi, it's nigh-on impossible to predict what the first competitive XI of the Maresca era will look like.

To get it, it's a simple one-two punch.
With plenty more activity expected at the Etihad over the coming weeks, the Manchester Evening News has ranked every piece of business done by City so far this summer:
Elliot Anderson (116m from Nottingham Forest)
He's not kicked a ball for City yet having been at the World Cup with England until the final weekend of the tournament but everything points to this being something of a transformative signing for the Blues. Some will query the pricetag but he was outstanding for Nottingham Forest last season and was a key player for England in North America. If he can hit the ground running he can help City chase honours at home and abroad next term. 8/10
Mathys Detourbet (21.5m from Troyes - loaned out to AS Monaco)
The young winger has arrived and then headed straight out to Monaco on loan in what looks a good fit for the 19-year-old. City will hope he builds on his breakout season last term and is able to return to the Etihad capable of challenging for a first team spot. 6/10
Pierce Charles (Up to 10m from Sheffield Wednesday - loaned out to QPR)
Another who has gone straight out on loan with a move to the capital. City needed to add depth in the goalkeeping department and Charles is a player the club know well having come through the ranks at the Etihad. 6/10
Jeremy Monga (Up to 12.5m from Leicester City)
A hugely talented teenager who will hope to have done enough in pre-season to convince Enzo Maresca he deserves to be around the first team this summer. City beat Arsenal to his signature and he's tipped to have a big future. 7/10
Geronimo Rulli (1.7m from Marseille)
Replacing James Trafford with a goalkeeper of similar quality who was happy to be No.2 was never going to be easy - the only reason Trafford left was because he was too good to play back-up. But in Geronimo Rulli City have signed a player who knows the club, having been at City in 2016/17, has plenty of experience and cost a mere 1.7m. City can be pleased with their business. 6/10
Rodri (64.5m to Barcelona)
It's impossible to look at the best midfielder in the world's exit as a positive. Rodri has been key to City's success over the last seven years and his departure can't be seen as anything other than a blow to City. That being said, the club have never stood in the way of a player who has wanted to leave as long as a suitable bid is tabled, and clearly City believe that pocketing 64.5m is worth being without Rodri next season. It's a handsome sum but still a huge blow. 5/10
James Trafford (40m to Leeds)
There is no doubt City would have kept James Trafford at the Etihad if he had wanted to stay, but the simple fact is he wanted to leave and keeping an unhappy player would have made no sense. Given his desire to leave, plenty of clubs would have struggled to demand such a high fee, but 40m is good business from City. That's not to say Leeds have overpaid, as Trafford could quite easily become England's No.1, but he had no future at City and so 40m in the bank is a good deal. 7/10
Manu Akanji (13m to Inter Milan)
A deal agreed last summer and one that feels the right step at the right time for a player who always stepped up when required for City and started the Champions League final in 2023. A reasonable fee too for a now 31-year-old. 6/10
Nathan Ake (Up to 8.5m to Fenerbahce)
Similar to the Akanji deal, it's a deal that probably needed to happen for player and club. Ake proved his worth last season and still has plenty to offer but it was increasingly difficult to see him getting much game time at City if everyone was fit. 6/10
Jahmai Simpson-Pusey (Up to 6.4m to FC Koln)
He impressed on loan in Germany last season and the Bundesliga side have swooped to make the move permanent. It's nearly two years since he made his City debut and the 20-year-old will now hope to kick on and make his own mark in the game. 6/10
Reigan Heskey (Up to 6.8m to FC Koln)
The Bundesliga side have clearly been tracking the age-group talent at City and the move for Heskey is an intriguing one. He's clearly a talented player but whether he had the capabilities to go all the way at the Etihad was an unknown. With that said the fee received seems good business and it will be interesting to see how he gets on in Germany. 6/10
Tom Galvez (427,000 to Go Ahead Eagles)
Helped Ducth side Cambur to promotion last season during a successful campaign in which the defender played more than 50 games. That has earned him a move to Go Ahead Eagles and netted City a sum for a player who never featured for the Blues senior team. 6/10
Finley Burns (200,000 to Wigan Athletic)
Having progressed through the youth ranks, Burns' only senior appearance for City came in the victory over Wycombe in September 2021. He has been shipped out on loan four times in the past four years and it was clearly the right time for him to move on. 6/10
Isaac Smith (undisclosed to Barnsley)
The young defender came through the ranks at City and represented England at age-group level. He's a talented player but the path to the first team is a crowded one at the Etihad and after a successful loan at Oakwell last season, a permanent switch to Yorkshire could see him flourish. 6/10
Oliver Whatmuff (Stockport County, loan)
Starred on loan at Rochdale last season when he helped them to promotion back into the Football League and now makes the step up into League One. Still only 18, he has a bright future and a move to an upwardly mobile club in County with the manager who had him at Dale last term should serve him well. 7/10
Sverre Nypan (Lommel, loan)
His move to Middlesbrough didn't work out last term and the hope for player and City is that slotting into a CFG club with a coach in Lee Johnson who they believe can help bring the best out of the young midfielder will help him kick on. What he really needs is gametime but on paper it's a sensible loan. 6/10
Christian McFarlane (Leicester City, loan)
A first senior move for the young defender to a club that will have aspirations of bouncing straight back into the Championship club after a woeful campaign last term. Russell Martin is big on passing football and a possession game and that could suit McFarlane down to the ground. 6/10
Max Alleyne (Burnley, loan)
Alleyne impressed at Watford during the first half of last season before being recalled. There was a chance he could have had a part to play at the Etihad again this season but he has now sealed a switch to Burnley. The Clarets will expect to be challenging at the top end of the Championship table this season and another campaign in the second tier should do Alleyne the world of good. 7/10
Divin Mubama (Southampton, loan)
Mubama enjoyed an excellent pre-season tour, with two goals in his first two friendlies and nearly a third against Atletico. Having earned starts ahead of Divine Mukasa in Asia, Mubama has given a reminder of his promise and that has been enough for Southampton to come calling. This will be an excellent switch for Mubama if he can find any kind of goalscoring rhythm. 7/10
Kalvin Phillips (Sheffield United, loan)
How do you solve a problem like Kalvin Phillips? Of course City would have preferred a permanent exit this summer, but that was never going to happen given his injury record. Phillips still has two years remaining on the deal he signed back in 2022 but the chances of them getting a fee for him already look very slim. But there's more chance of that happening if he is out on loan playing regularly (hopefully) so fingers crossed. 6/10
Lakyle Samuel (Exeter City, loan)
Having spent time in League Two with Bromley last season, Lakyle Samuel has completed a loan switch back to the fourth tier, this time with Exeter City. The 20-year-old has yet to make a senior appearance for the Blues and another season out on loan will only help his development. 6/10
