Film 'so disturbing' cinema-goers are walking out over grim scene - and it's not a horror

Jacob Elordi's latest film Saltburn, which also stars Barry Keoghan and Rosamund Pike, has left some movie fans totally speechless and walking out of the cinema early

Saltburn, featuring Euphoria actor Jacob Elordi, alongside Barry Keoghan and Rosamund Pike, has left fans so unsettled that they're leaving the cinema in large numbers.

The new movie, released in November, tells the story of an Oxford University student who gets invited to his aristocratic classmate's eccentric family estate for a summer he'll never forget. The film takes a dark and twisted turn, leaving viewers feeling uneasy.

Many came just to see Elordi perform but were left spooked by the creepy plot. One TikTok user shared a video of herself looking shocked with the caption: "Just 2 girls who watched Saltburn without researching the plot (we went for Jacob Elordi)." (sic) Another social media user wrote: "I miss the peace I felt before Saltburn."

Another viewer commented: "So many things in that movie are permanently cemented into my head." Someone else agreed, saying: "I read the Wikipedia plot and I'm convinced I would still be shocked seeing the movie."

The film has been compared to Don't Worry Darling, Midsommar and Call Me By Your Name. Despite being "slow at first", fans are raving about the "chaos [that] has been there the whole time". Some viewers were so shocked they left the cinema early.

One person shared on X, formerly known as Twitter: "Someone just walked out of Saltburn after THAT SCENE, and you know art is back when it makes people rage quit." Another chimed in: "The best thing about Odeon Limitless is that I feel no compunction to stay when I dislike a film. I've added Saltburn to the list of movies I've walked out of."

Another viewer commented: "I can now add Saltburn to the list of movies I have walked out of! Long, drawn out and my god nothing happens! There are only 3 movies on this list, the other two are Unfriended and Tenet. Hated every minute."

This isn't the first film in recent years to make fans walk out. A 2022 horror film by A24 featured a male pregnancy scene so disturbing it had fans ready to leave. Men, starring Jessie Buckley and Rory Kinnear, follows Harper, who retreats to a rural English manor house after the death of her abusive husband.

But the village she's staying in proves very eerie, and she begins to see one particular man everywhere. Roy's character in the film has a scene where he gives birth to himself repeatedly, which left some viewers feeling queasy. Rory, the actor, had to bare it all for the cameras during this intense scene.

He told Vanity Fair: "As the film got more intimate, as the film got more versatile, odder, we knew each other by then so well, we had done so many other scenes together, that we had a really healthy approach to the tenor of the piece. If you're getting on with someone as well as Jessie and I got on and you're doing a scene where you're bringing a lobster claw around their neck, you're going to find it funny the first time you do it, but that's okay. Because we both were committed to realising it as impactfully as we hoped it would be."
