Star of The Inbetweeners James Buckley has confirmed he has been diagnosed with a genetic condition after undergoing a routine health check. The actor, 38, decided to get himself checked over after his wife Clair was taken to hospital in an ambulance after suffering from severe dehydration.

He explained on his podcast that he requested a blood test by doctors following results from a previous test which had flagged up a concern. James revealed on the latest episode of The Buckleys that he is at risk of cardiovascular incident due to having a genetically inherited type of blood cholesterol called Lipoprotein(a).

The condition is a genetically inherited type of blood cholesterol. It means that James has had to give up drinking, while also cutting down on takeaways. The diagnosis is said to affect around one in five people across the globe.

There are typically no physical symptoms until a cardiovascular event occurs. The condition leads to faster plaque buildup in arteries. It also increases inflammation and increases the risk of blood clotting.

James said on his show: "I've also had health problems as well. It's something to do with my Lipoprotein(a), something to do with that. There's nothing you can do about it, by the way. And the doctor's just been like: 'You need to change'."

He admitted is has made him rethink his lifestyle choices, meaning he is currently not drinking alcohol and cutting back on any unhealthy foods.

He added he is "a high risk now for a cardiovascular incident" and said: "My heart, my arteries. I'm not a religious man, but sometimes I feel like there is a God that sort of goes 'that'll teach you'.

"I feel like I've been on this podcast slagging people off that don't drink. Yeah, we have boring stuff. And now I've been told to try not [laughter] in rein it in [sic]."

Despite revealing his current alcohol ban, he admitted: "I'm going to have a beer soon." While joking about his drinking due to his own condition, he was more serious when it came to his kids. James and Clair share two sons together.

James continued to say he is worried in case they have inherited the genetic condition.

While James has been discussing his health, talks have reportedly been advancing to bring back iconic sitcom The Inbetweeners, in which he starred as Jay. Last month, it was reported that Netflix bosses are eager to sign Emily Atack for a reboot of the classic sitcom The Inbetweeners, which is set to delight fans when it returns to the streaming giant.

All four main stars, Simon Bird (Will McKenzie), Joe Thomas (Simon Cooper), James (Jay Cartwright) and Blake Harrison (Neil Sutherland) are expected to reprise their roles. However, the return of Emily Atack, who played Charlotte Hinchcliffe, is yet to be confirmed.

"The creators of the show have written the script and are ready to roll," a source told The Sun at the time. They added: "Emily is one of the missing pieces in the project they're keen to get in place.

"Fans will already be delighted that the four main leads are returning, as there was concern that a reboot might see new, younger actors cast in the roles of the lads, who were all supposed to be teenagers in the show.

"But it's fair to say getting Emily back would be the cherry on the Inbetweeners cake." While Emily is yet to sign up, bosses are facing another hurdle aligning the schedule of the main actors.
