Jesy Nelson has broken her silence on her split with fianc Zion Foster following the birth of their twin daughters, saying the tots' diagnosis played a big part in their decision

Jesy Nelson's ex partner Zion Foster said Im out of my depth after discovering their twin daughters have a life-threatening condition.

In a new Prime documentary about the diagnosis, the Little Mix star bursts into tears saying she fears she'll be left 'heartbroken for life.'

During the episode, Zion says: Im not equipped to deal with this. Im out of my depth; emotionally, physically and mentally. At the moment Im surviving. I just need to get help.

Jesy adds: I think were both thinking, how the f*** are we going to do this, And we will because we have to. We dont have a choice Its really f***ing hard.

She then admits: I can tell hes really struggling. For a 26-year-old to have to now be put in this situation I feel like I can see his life flashing before his eyes.

The former Little Mix star has said since that she still gets on with her ex but believes that Ocean Jade and Story Monroe's condition tore them apart. The 35-year-old singer has broken her silence on the end of their four-year relationship ahead of the release of Prime show Jesy Nelson: Life Changing on Friday.

The pair have faced an incredibly difficult chapter after their twins were diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy, a rare genetic condition causing muscle weakness that can be fatal without early detection. She is on a mission to raise as much awareness as possible, and the forthcoming docuseries details her struggle.

Jesy opened up about the toll the diagnosis took on them both and speaking about the split in detail for the first time, she said: Its a very traumatic thing that weve both been through. I think its quite inevitable for things like this to happen to couples. I dont think its a shock that weve broken up.

Youll either be a team or itll tear you apart and unfortunately I feel thats what its done to me and Zion. We still get on, theres not bad feeling. My main priority is them. I just want to be the best mum with the best energy and positivity possible.

The house was not like that when we were together. Were both dealing with this situation completely differently, and together we were clashing. I decided we would be better off apart. Its hard. Its just me and mum now.

Zion previously opened up on the end of their time together and gave the impression she instigated the split.

According to the NHS, Type 1 SMA means sufferers are unable to sit without support and have difficulties with feeding and breathing. Jesy has been campaigning for newborn testing to be rolled out across the NHS since their diagnosis.

Last month, Jesy admitted she was "heartbroken and outraged" by the decision to not offer testing to every child. But she vowed to "keep on fighting" for the testing.

She had attended parliament for the MPs' debate on SMA screening from birth and was distraught at the decision. It means that at present, only 72 per cent of the country will have access to newborn screening when it is introduced in October.

Earleir this year, Jesy appeared on This Morning last month and vowed to shout from the rooftops to campaign for change. She wants SMA to be part of an NHS blood test that is normally carried out at five days old, and currently tests for 10 other conditions.

Jesy Nelson: Life Changing will be shown on Prime from July 17.
