Morrissey revealed The Smiths were meant to go on tour next year but Johnny Marr refused to join them.

The band, who are known for their songs This Charming Man, There Is A Light That Never Goes Out, Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now and many more huge hits, were formed in 1982 but internal tensions led to their split only five years later. The band originally consisted of Morrissey, Johnny, Andy Rourke and Mike Joyce.

Revealing that fans could have had the chance to watch the band on tour, 65-year-old Morrissey said on his website: "In June 2024 AEG Entertainment Group made a lucrative offer to both Morrissey and Marr to tour worldwide as The Smiths throughout 2025.

Morrissey said Yes to the offer; Marr ignored the offer. Morrissey undertakes a largely sold-out tour of the USA in November. Marr continues to tour as a special guest to New Order. Meanwhile, earlier this week, Johnny posted a picture of Reform UK leader Nigel Farage when he was asked whether The Smiths would reunite after Oasis stars Liam and Noel Gallagher put behind their feud to go on tour.

Johnny has touched upon the idea of a reunion many times in the past. He seemingly compared Morrissey to Farage over the singer's political views. In 2019, he addressed rumours of a reunion by joking that Farage - who was the Brexit Party leader - could be the one to join the band to play the guitar.

In 2016, he told Sky News that Morrissey's pro-Farage views would be a "drawback" to a potential reunion. Two years ago, Morrissey took to his website to beg Johnny to stop mentioning him in interviews. He said: "This is not a rant or a hysterical bombast. It is a polite and calmly measured request: Would you please stop mentioning my name in your interviews?

"Would you please, instead, discuss your own career, your own unstoppable solo achievements and your own music? If you can, would you please just leave me out of it?" The singer went on to say that the duo hadn't been close for close to 40 years which he said was 'many lifetimes ago'.

The star insisted they were not successful when they first met and instead found fame together in The Smiths. Morrissey added: "Must you persistently, year after year, decade after decade, blame me for everything from the 2007 Solomon Islands tsunami to the dribble on your grandmas chin?"
