The One Show presenter Alex Jones has revealed the demanding routine she's adopted as she approaches a significant birthday milestone.
The TV host, who will turn 50 next March, has opened up about her approach to fitness and revealed she has incorporated a rather extreme practice into her lifestyle.
Alex, a mother of three juggling a busy television career, said she occasionally undertakes 36-hour fasts. Remarkably, she doesn't do it alone.
Speaking to The Sun's TV Mag, Alex explained: "I do a 36-hour fast now and again because there are so many health benefits to it."
Her husband Charlie joins her during the lengthy periods without food, with Alex joking that doing it together is essential to avoid becoming "hangry", reports Wales Online.
"My husband and I do it - you have to do it together otherwise you get 'hangry'," she remarked.
Yet even 36 hours pales in comparison to what some of Alex's friends attempt. "Some of our friends do 84 hours, which I don't think I could do with a job and three kids," she acknowledged.
The mother of three noted that her friends had more flexibility while working remotely. "They were working from home, so if they're feeling a bit funny, they can have a lie down, but that's not an option for me," she explained.
Additionally, Alex has incorporated weight training into her routine and is already noticing positive changes.
"And I started doing some weight training, which I'm really enjoying and seeing the benefits of that," she said.
Despite her new fitness routine, Alex is keen to stress she isn't pushing herself to extremes.
"I don't exercise like a nutter, but I do always walk anyway because we take Scout [the family dog] out."
And while fasting may conjure images of strict dieting, Alex maintains her eating habits haven't undergone a dramatic overhaul.
"I don't restrict what I eat, I just eat good stuff," she explained.
Her comments come as The One Show gears up to mark its 20th anniversary with a week of special programmes, building towards a Friday night celebration.
Having graced the iconic red sofa for 16 years, Alex shows no signs of stepping away from her presenting role.
Rumours of other television ventures, including Strictly Come Dancing, have done little to tempt her away from her presenting duties.
"I mean, if there was something like Is that, I could probably do it side by side," she laughs.
"But I would never give up The One Show in favour of something else. Is there a better job? I don't think there is. There is nowhere I'd prefer to be."
Throughout her tenure on the programme, Alex has tied the knot with businessman Charlie, welcomed three children - Ted, nine, Kit, seven, and Annie, four - and swapped London life for the Berkshire countryside.
Looking back on this remarkable chapter, she reflected: "It will forever be the busiest and most monumental part of my life, I suppose."
