Stone Roses' Gary Mani died nearly two years to the day after his wife, it has been reported. News broke today that the rock musician passed away at the age of 63.

The news came two years after my wife, Imelda, also died. The married couple shared their twin boys, Gene and George 12, who were born in January 2013.

Tributes for the star have been pouring in from fans on social media. Gary's brother Greg announced his death on Facebook, writing: "IT IS WITH THE HEAVIEST OF HEARTS THAT I HAVE TO ANNOUNCE THE SAD PASSING OF MY BROTHER GARY MANI MOUNFIELD. RIP RKID."

Meanwhile, Happy Mondays singer Rowetta posted on X: "Going to miss you so much. All my love to the boys, the family & all those who knew & loved him."

Gary, who came from Crumpsall in Manchester, rose to fame after joining The Stone Roses in the 1980s. Mani was in the Stone Roses until they disbanded in 1996.

He then went on to join Primal Scream, and in 2011, he announced that he had left Primal Scream to reform the Stone Roses.

Mani's wife, Imelda Mounfield, died on November 18, 2023. Events agent Imelda was diagnosed with stage four bowel cancer in November 2020 and died at the age of just 52.

Imelda spoke about her illness to ITV Granada Reports in October 2022. She said: "The tumour in my bowel had spread to my liver. It was a massive shock, because I wasn't really poorly.

"Then I had some emergency surgery, and I responded quite well to chemo, so I've been on quite a big journey over the past two years."

Mani said: "When you've been told first of all you've got cancer, then you might not live five years, it's two proper Tyson blows. Walking on stage at Wembley Stadium in front of 90 thousand people is a doddle compared to this.

"It's made me so appreciative of the NHS for what they do and it's made me re-evaluate everything. All these gigs, all these records, they don't mean a thing.

"It means nothing, as long as this lady's ok and my family's ok, everything else is superfluous." Several famous faces attended Imelda's funeral.

Liam Gallagher, Shaun Ryder, Ian Brown, John Squire, Rowetta, Martin Moscrop, Simon Moran, Irvine Welsh and Bobby Gillespie were all at the event. A wake was held at the Irish Heritage Centre in Cheetham Hill.

Posting on social media following the service, Happy Mondays star Rowetta wrote: "Your Mani and all your loved ones did you proud today, Imelda Mounfield. Such a beautiful service. The church was beautiful and rammed full of all your family and friends."
