Halle Berry has confirmed her engagement to Van Hunt. The Oscar-winning actress has been married three times, but while she's overjoyed by becoming engaged again, she and her Grammy-winning fianc haven't set a date yet, despite previously branding him the love of her life.
Appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, she said: "Well, there's some confusion that he asked to marry me, and I said no. No, that's not the case. I did not say no. We just don't have a date."
She went on to add: "But of course I said I would marry him! He did put a little ring on it," before giving the cameras a look at the huge diamond sitting on her finger. The huge rock is made up of a square-shaped diamond, sitting on a gold band.
The Die Another Day actress appeared to be referencing a previous interview where she said that Van, 55, had proposed last summer, but she "hadn't said yes"; however, she said she would make exceptions for "health reasons" due to the access that comes with being married.
She said: "I don't think we need to be married to have a meaningful relationship. I don't know if we will ever get married." Meanwhile, Van said on the Today show over the summer: "I put out the proposal, and it's still on hold as you can see. It's just out there floating. You know, maybe you can encourage her."
Halle added: "Well, I've been married three times. Van has been married once, and so no, we don't feel like we have to get married to validate our love in any way. We don't, I think we will get married just because, out of the people I've been married to, this is the person I should have married.
"And I feel like I should, we should get married, but it's not because we feel like we have to. I think it's something that we would like to do just because we want that expression."
Halle and Van were set up by his sibling during the coronavirus pandemic in April, frequently texting and phoning one another before they eventually met up four months later. She previously told The Cut: "After my third divorce, people started to say: 'What's wrong with her? She's crazy. She can't keep a man.'
"I pretty much stopped doing interviews for a decade because I got tired of the same old story. It was always: 'Poor Halle Unlucky in Love Again.' And I would always argue: 'Who says I want to keep a man if he's not the right man?' I'm in the best relationship I have ever had."
Berry divorced her first husband, David Justice, in 1997, having only been married for three years. She later split from her second husband, musician Eric Bent, in 2005 after two years of marriage. And her third husband, Olivier Martinez, ended their marriage in 2016 after three years.
Halle had also dated Gabriel Aubry, whom she had met on a photoshoot for Versace, but five years after they started dating, they confirmed they had split before becoming locked in a custody battle over their daughter.
