Teen Mom cast now from no contact with child to car tragedy and prison sentence

They became household names after sharing the highs and lows of teenage motherhood on MTV's Teen Mom - but 17 years later, Maci Bookout, Farrah Abraham, Amber Portwood and Catelynn Baltierra have taken very different paths

More than 15 years after Teen Mom first introduced viewers to four young women navigating the challenges of teenage motherhood, Maci Bookout, Farrah Abraham, Amber Portwood and Catelynn Baltierra have all gone on to lead very different lives.

The four women first appeared on MTV's 16 and Pregnant before becoming the original cast of Teen Mom in 2009. The series followed them as they adjusted to motherhood, dealt with relationships and tried to build careers while raising their young children. Since then, their families grew, relationships have changed and even their careers moved in very different directions.

Here's what the original Teen Mom cast are up to now:

Maci Bookout

Maci Bookout's story began with her teenage pregnancy with then-boyfriend Ryan Edwards, with viewers watching her give birth to their son Bentley in 2008.

Much of her early Teen Mom storyline focused on co-parenting with Ryan and trying to balance raising Bentley with her education and career.

Maci and Ryan eventually split, and she later began a relationship with Taylor McKinney.

The couple went on to have two children together, daughter Jayde and son Maverick, before marrying in 2016.

Maci is now a mum-of-three, with Bentley having grown into a teenager alongside his younger siblings.

She has also built a career beyond reality television. Maci is an author and public speaker, and she and Taylor have their own clothing company, Things That Matter. She has continued to appear in the Teen Mom franchise and remains one of the most recognisable original cast members.

Maci's relationship with Ryan has also evolved over the years, with the pair continuing to navigate co-parenting Bentley as he gets older.

Farrah Abraham

Farrah's original storyline was particularly heartbreaking, as she was pregnant with daughter Sophia when she appeared on 16 and Pregnant.

Sophia's dad, Derek Underwood, died in a car accident before she was born, leaving Farrah to raise their daughter as a single mum.

Teen Mom followed Farrah as she dealt with motherhood while pursuing her education and various career opportunities.

Unlike the other original cast members, Farrah eventually left Teen Mom OG after the seventh season and went on to pursue other projects outside the show.

She has remained in the public eye through social media, television appearances and various business ventures.

Farrah is not currently married and has one child, daughter Sophia, who grew up in front of the cameras and is a teenager herself.

Sophia is also beginning to establish her own identity outside of her mum's reality TV career.

In 2026, Farrah revealed that Sophia was writing a book about growing up in the public eye.

Farrah has also recently made a surprising move into politics, filing to run for Austin City Council's District 5 seat in November.

Amber Portwood

Amber Portwood was introduced to viewers as a young mum expecting her first child, daughter Leah, with then-boyfriend Gary Shirley.

Her turbulent relationship with Gary became one of the central storylines of the original series, with Amber's struggles with motherhood playing out on screen.

Meanwhile, her life became increasingly complicated when she was arrested for domestic violence-related charges against Gary and sentenced to five years in prison.

After returning to the franchise, she had another child, son James, with Andrew Glennon.

Amber and Andrew eventually split, and James has primarily lived with his father.

Her relationship with Leah has also been a major storyline in more recent years, particularly as she has grown older.

Amber has had several relationships since splitting from Gary, including a relationship with Gary Wayt, which was documented on Teen Mom: The Next Chapter.

As for work, Amber has continued with reality television but has also been exploring projects outside MTV.

This year, she signed a deal for her own YouTube show, promising fans it would reveal plenty of behind-the-scenes stories.

Catelynn Baltierra

Catelynn's story was perhaps one of the most emotional of the original four.

She and her then-boyfriend Tyler Baltierra discovered they were expecting a baby while still teenagers.

The couple ultimately made the incredibly difficult decision to place their daughter Carly for adoption, with the process becoming a major part of 16 and Pregnant and later Teen Mom.

Catelynn and Tyler stayed together despite the challenges they faced and eventually married in 2015.

They went on to have three more daughters together - Novalee, Vaeda and Rya - meaning Catelynn is now a mum-of-four, although Carly was raised by her adoptive parents.

Catelynn and Tyler have remained together and continued to discuss their adoption journey publicly.

Their relationship with Carly has become more complicated as she grew older, with the couple previously speaking about difficulties surrounding contact with her and her adoptive parents.

Outside reality TV, Catelynn has worked as an author, public speaker and podcast host alongside Tyler.

This year, she took on a regular job following the end of filming, something that surprised Teen Mom viewers.

Catelynn and Tyler continued to be involved in the Teen Mom world, but their children are now old enough to have their own views about appearing on camera.

Tyler has also remained in the spotlight, continuing to appear on reality TV and host their podcast together.

He made headlines in 2023 after launching an OnlyFans account, where he shared more revealing content and reportedly earned a substantial sum before later shutting it down.
