In a huge twist in the World Cup, France were eliminated by Spain last night with one finalist confirmed and just hours away from finding out if England can overcome world champions Argentina. But in the meantime, as a result of Spain's win, they are now the newly formed bookies favourite having been joint-favourite with France before the tournament started.
Since their win against Les Bleus, La Roja are now the odds-on favourite to win this summer's tournament at 8/11 with AK Bets while Sky Bet, Betfair and Ladbrokes have the nation down at 4/6 to get their second star. You can also find more betting offers at the Mirror Betting Hubs Free Bets offers.
Spain beat France 2-0 in their FIFA World Cup semi-final in Arlington, Texas, on Tuesday, extending their recent dominance over their European heavyweight rivals to three straight wins after victories over Les Bleus in the Euro 2024 semi-finals and the 2025 UEFA Nations League semi-finals.
The result also ended Frances hopes of reaching a third consecutive World Cup final and hoping to emulate an achievement previously managed only by West Germany (19821990) and Brazil (19942002).
Mikel Oyarzabal put Spain ahead from the penalty spot before the break, and Pedro Porro struck early in the second half to seal a near-flawless performance from Luis de la Fuentes side. Spain will now face either England or Argentina in Sundays final in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
The outcome of this semi-final has meant that Spain have drifted away from England who have been like-for-like in the odds market for the majority of the competition since their draw with Cape Verde in the group stages.
