The Golden Boot race at the 2026 World Cup looks set to be decided in each sides final two matches with the third-place play-off also playing a part in the summer's competition as to who will achieve the personal accolade.
Frances Kylian Mbapp and Argentinas Lionel Messi lead the way with eight goals from six games, but England duo Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham remain in the hunt on six apiece. Mbappe's Real Madrid teammate has leapfrogged over his captain in the odds market too after scoring a brace in England's quarter-final tie with Norway at the weekend.
The award goes to the tournaments top scorer, with assists used as the first tiebreaker if players finish level. As it stands, Mbapp has three assists to Messis two, giving the France captain a narrow edge in the battle to retain the prize.
Erling Haaland sits in second place with seven goals but as Norway have been eliminated, he is no ruled out of contention for the award.
Right now the bookies are backing Mbappe to win the award despite being tied with Messi with eight goals apiece. The French captain is 6/4 with William Hill and Sky Bet while Messi is 2/1 with the likes of Betfair and Ladbrokes.
For the England contenders and Bellingham has leapfrogged his captain to be in contention for the prize at 4/1 with bet365 and Coral thanks to his two goals putting his total tally to six along with Kane. The Bayern Munich striker is still in the mix but the bookies have him down at 8/1 across the board.
