Now that the dust has settled on the 2026 World Cup, attention has begun to turn towards the new football season - and with it, a new EA Sports FC title. Football fans suffering from withdrawal symptoms since Sunday's final in New Jersery need not wait too much longer for updates on a new game and potential new cover star.
EA Sports FC 26 was officially revealed around this time last year, so it won't be long before gamers get the first sneak peek at what's to come once the new football season arrives. There have been plenty of hints of new features, including a potential open world mode simillar to that now featured in the likes of NBA 2K and WWE 2K.
Given that the latest EA Sports football game is almost always a chart-topper throughout the year, it won't take much by way of new modes or tweaks to ensure blockbuster sales. FC 26 sold more than 10 millions copies in the first two weeks of release, and was the best selling videogame in 16 out of 17 European countries in 2025.
But when will it come out and how much will it cost to buy? And will it run on your console?
A new report from French tech news outlet Dealabs Magazine apparently has the answers.
EA Sports FC 27 is set to be released on September 25, 2026, according to investigator bilbil-kun, who claims the game will arrive in the same window as previous years. Indeed, the EA Sports football game - including its previous incarnation as FIFA - has launched in the final week of September every year for the past 16 years, except on three occasions when it released in early October.
Reporting for Dealabs, bilbil-kun says that the usual early access option will be available for those who buy the Ultimate Edition of the game, too. This is likely to be a week's worth of gaming before the main launch, meaning some gamers can get going on their Ultimate Team or Career Mode saves from September 18, 2026.
Early access is usually also available to EA Play subscribers, but limited to a 10-hour trial. EA Play is included with Xbox Game Pass subscriptions.
While Grand Theft Auto 6 might be launching at a bigger price point than most AAA titles, it doesn't look to have affected the market accordingly just yet. Dealabs says it'll cost the usual 69.99 on PC and Nintendo Switch 2, or 79.99 for PlayStation and Xbox users.
That translates exactly to 59.51 for PC and Switch 2 or 68 for the other consoles. However, we expect it to be more like 59.99 and 69.99 - with roughly 10 savings depending where you look to buy.
And also unlike GTA 6, EA Sports FC 27 is set to be available as a physical disc for console owners.
The major curveball thrown by bilbil-kun is that, despite the rumours of the open world mode - rumoured to be named 'The Grounds' - EA Sports FC 27 will still remain available on last-gen machines.
That means that it'll be released on PS4, Xbox One and the original Nintendo Switch. It might be that, if EA Sports follow the lead from 2K, The Grounds will only be available for new-gen gamers - but this all remains to be seen.
Hopefully, we'll get official word from EA Sports soon. Dealabs, as well as a number of prominent leakers, expect the full reveal to come this week.
