Dad wants 'Temu Range Rover' recalled having broken down after just two weeks

A man is demanding that 'Temu Range Rovers' be recalled after his fortnight-old vehicle reportedly ground to a halt on a busy road. Alan Lee, 37, purchased a Jaecoo 7 PHEX Luxury nicknamed the 'Temu Range Rover' owing to its affordable 35,000 price tag on March 18, 2026.

Having previously owned a Volkswagen Tiguan, Alan was won over by glowing online reviews of the Jaecoo before taking the plunge. Within days of collecting the car, Alan noticed his headlights flickering whenever he turned corners, which he described as "weird".

Then on April 2, 2026, while driving his four-year-old son to nursery, the vehicle "completely stopped" on a 60mph A road, with all warning lights suddenly illuminating. Earlier this year, the UK Government recalled approximately 7,500 Jaecoo 7 (ICE/petrol) models due to a defective ECU (Electronic Control Unit) wiring harness clip that could trigger unexpected stalling.

Alan is now demanding his particular Jaecoo 7 model be "recalled", insisting such vehicles are "not fit for the road". The head of operations from Birmingham said: "I am a real-life example of how they do not care about their customers.

"It is a 'Temu Range Rover'. People need to be aware of what is happening with these cars. I think there needs to be more regulation and checks on these new cars. Some Jaecoo models have already been recalled; clearly, my model and others are not fit for the road."

Alan had previously been driving a Volkswagen Tiguan when, earlier this year, he began searching for a new SUV for himself and his family. Having spotted an article online claiming the Jaecoo 7 was the UK's best-selling car in November, he decided to jump on the bandwagon

Alan, who shared his experience with Talk to the Press, said: "I am a family man, I liked an SUV, and I saw a lot of good reviews on this car.

"It was the highest-selling car in November, everything was pointing towards giving this car a go and being an early adopter. For the price point, it matched other vehicles in that range, but this one came with a lot more tech."

The vehicle was delivered on March 18, 2026, and within days, Alan encountered his first problem. He noticed his headlights were flickering whenever he turned a corner.

"I thought it was weird," Alan said. "For the first time, I noticed the headlights flicker when I turned a corner. I didn't think much of it at the time."

Several weeks on, Alan was dropping his son off at nursery. Travelling along a 60mph A road, as he turned into a roundabout, he said the car ground to a sudden standstill.

Alan described how the car "died completely", with his immediate concern being the safety of himself and his son. He said: "I was on a busy road, and the car just died, completely shut down.

"I had pulled up at the lights, as I entered the roundabout, it stopped, and I got 20 different warning lights flashing up on the car. It was flashing every error possible. I couldn't go into drive or reverse." Alan immediately dialled 999, with police arriving to close off the lane. His vehicle was subsequently towed to the police recovery compound, where it remains.

Alan said he contacted Jaecoo, who promised to resolve the matter, and claims he was offered a courtesy vehicle but is yet to receive it. He stated: "I called Jaecoo to tell them I need a courtesy car, and I still don't have one.

"I do not want another vehicle from them. I will not be buying from them again. They clearly have no idea what they are selling, more and more of these vehicles are having issues."

Earlier this year, the UK Government issued a recall for Jaecoo 7 (ICE/petrol) models following concerns over a defective ECU (Electronic Control Unit) wiring harness clip potentially causing unexpected stalling.

Up to 7,500 Jaecoo 7 models manufactured between April and December 2025 are believed to be potentially affected. A spokesperson for Jaecoo stated: "Jaecoo UK can confirm that it takes aftersales service seriously, and has provided the customer with a Jaecoo courtesy car.

"It also believes that the customer is kept well updated via the leasing and/or finance company involved."
