Cadbury fans have been divided after spotting two updates to Heroes chocolate boxes. With Christmas getting closer every day (129 days from today), some people might already be stocking up ahead of the festive season as items arrive in the shops.
Posting on Instagram, a content creator (@UKnewestfoods) spotted B&M starting to sell the classic mixed chocolate tubs with Cadbury Heroes on offer for 4.99. The 500g box of bite-sized chocolates might look different from what people are used to.
The Instagram post reads: "First they were big metal tins, then they were plastic tubs, now theyre cardboard boxes and the smallest, yet most expensive theyve ever been [at] 5 for 500g. Theyve also removed the chocolate Eclair and added Flake."
Now made from cardboard, these multi-packs contain a variety of favourites like Dairy Milk, Twirl and Fudge. However, a staple has been quietly axed from the selection this year as part of a trial, with Cadbury Eclairs replaced by mini Flakes, in some boxes.
First launched in 1999 to rival Celebrations, Cadbury Heroes has rarely undergone major changes like this. Throughout its time on shop shelves, fans have only seen replacements for the likes of the Bournville, Dream and Picnic bars, to name a few.
The latest change was trialled last year in selected stores and is being rolled out again this year, meaning Eclairs will still be available in other tubs. The change had fans divided online.
Responding to the change, one fan said: "This is so sad. Bring back the nostalgic huge tin!! Life is so sad and minimal now. Bring back the Xmas of the 80s and 90s!" Someone else said: "That was diabolical". A third put: "It's not as fun when it's smaller."
Another said: "I'm glad that the container is something that is easily recyclable." Someone else wrote: "Im not mad at the swap, I dont mind an Eclair, but I love a Flake!" Another put: "Finally! The Eclairs are gone!"
Someone else asked: "We'll still get the regular tubs with Eclairs, though, right? RIGHT?" And, one more posted: "Tesco had these last year and my family much prefer this - no one eats the Eclairs!"
Someone suggested: "Should have replaced it with a small version of Boost. Twirl and Flake are too similar, then youve got Wispa and Dairy Milk being boring as well!" A fifth put: "Glad theyve removed the Eclair at least!"
A Mondelez International spokesperson, on behalf of Cadbury, said: "We're always listening to our Cadbury fans to ensure we're continuously improving our range and reflecting changing consumer tastes. Following fan feedback, we introduced Cadbury Flake in place of Cadbury Eclairs as part of our Cadbury Heroes paper tub trial.
"The trial supports our efforts to reduce virgin plastic in our packaging while helping us gather feedback on both the new packaging format and assortment. Cadbury Eclairs continue to be included across the wider Cadbury Heroes range."
