'I ditched cheap pans for cookware used by pro chefs and haven't looked back'

Made In Cookware's stainless steel sets are a remarkable upgrade - it's no wonder professional chefs swear by it, as the price is cut to 309

Testing out Made In Cookware's pans

Despite cooking frequently for many years, I'd yet to invest in some decent cookware. My assortment of options was a random selection of pans that happened to be on offer in the shops over the years, with just about all of them having seen better days.

I was obviously familiar with non-stick and those sorts of features, but generally speaking, I didn't think it was possible for a pan to be particularly remarkable. That was until I tried some out that "chefs actually use".

The range in question comes from Made In Cookware, where the 5-piece stainless steel set is currently on offer, bringing the price down to 309 from 377. It's made up of a 25cm stainless-steel frying pan, a 1.9L stainless-steel saucepan with a lid and a 2.8L stainless-steel saucepan with a lid.

Instantly, when opening the boxes, I was struck by just how impressive the quality is when compared with the everyday ones you see hung up in supermarket aisles. They were so heavy and pristine that I almost didn't want to use them.

The pans are made from 5-ply stainless steel, which is designed to offer fast and even heat, while also limiting hot spots where food can burn. And I've found this to be true when using them so far.

It's noticeable how the pans need less heat from the hob compared to my ones, the handles stay cool. This is handy; otherwise, I'm certain I'd forget and end up burning myself. They're also suitable for use with gas, electric and induction hobs, and they look absolutely stunning.

While the price tag is not the cheapest out there, Made In Cookware backs up the quality with a lifetime warranty on the set. It's easy to see why it's the go-to choice for many professional chefs. Once you've mastered pre-heating the pan and adding the right amount of oil, it makes the food taste great.

I think the five-piece set would make an excellent starter kit for home cooks, and it's perfect for couples or those living alone. The frying pan is ideal for cooking eggs or steak, while the saucepans are just the right size for whipping up some pasta in one and a sauce in the other.

There are also other variations currently on offer, including six, 10 and 13-piece stainless steel sets. The six-piece set is now 499, down from 566, the 10-piece set is 699, reduced from 834, and the 13-piece set is 979, marked down from 1,201.

One thing worth noting is that they are quite heavy, which is both a positive (as they feel top-notch) but could potentially be a problem for users who struggle to lift hefty items.

For those on a tighter budget, Tefal is a well-known, reliable brand in the cookware industry, with its Ingenio Simplicity 22-Piece Pan Set priced at 139.99, reduced from 375. This set is specifically designed with space-saving in mind, with the stackable pans saving 50% of space compared to standard cookware, according to the brand.

In other options, even more affordable is Salter's Timeless 5-piece set, available for 65 at Argos. This includes three saucepans of varying sizes, one frying pan and a milk pan.

Over 110,000 verified reviews have been left for the Made In Cookware brand to date, with the majority of customers awarding the full five stars. One said: "After receiving this product, at least 95% of all my meals have been prepared in it. Its been extremely fun and rewarding to cook with."

Another continued: "Didnt realise what I have been missing by not using quality cookware, really enjoying cooking with my Made In." A third also added: "Made In pans are an investment, but the quality is excellent and I expect these will last a lifetime. I got the limited edition with brass handles, which add beauty and warmth to the design."

One customer noted that while they "love the look and feel" of the pan, they found it "difficult to clean". The Made In Cookware's 5-piece stainless steel set can be snapped up in the sale for 309.
