A man who bought lunch from a Gatwick Airport shop has opened up on his shock after it set him back a small fortune. Carmie Sellitto revealed his stash while visiting the airport's branch of WHSmith ahead of his 18-hour flight.
"I need to buy a bunch of snacks that will last me the 18 hours, but for some reason this place is so expensive and I have no idea why," he began in a video posted on Instagram. After collecting a basket, Carmie headed to the aisles where he picked up a packet of dried mangoes with a hefty 6 price tag.
"I've picked up some sweet chilli rice crackers and I'm going to go for some luxury nut and raisin mix," he continued. "The fact that that's probably going to be 20 already is actually a bit disgusting."
Carmie then expressed his astonishment at the 5 label attached to a large bag of Haribo Tangfastics, while also questioning who would be willing to part with 10 and 14 for a giant pack of Mentos mints and Chupa Chups lollipop respectively.
He then showcased 18 boxes of Ferrero Rochers turning down the opportunity to purchase one - instead adding a watermelon-flavoured Push Pop and Smints to his basket.
"I've got to go for a Reese's White Cup," Carmie continued as he browsed the confectionary. "And I'll get some [Galaxy] Minstrels."
As for drinks, he took advantage of a three-for-two offer on bottles of Actiph Water, before picking up a packet of Rennie in case he experiences heartburn on the flight.
Reduced packets of Cheez-Its came as a welcome surprise, as did 20% off bars of Cadbury Dairy Milk Biscoff - both of which were added to Carmie's basket.
He also picked up packets of Snack a Jacks and Proper Popcorn as well as grabbing a bottle of strawberry-flavoured Vitamin Well, and a bar of Cadbury & More Nutty Praline Crisp.
"I think we're done," Carmie finally declared as he headed to the self-checkouts. "And now what you've all been waiting for," he closed. "How much did I spend? I spent 58.70. Let me know if you think that's worth it. I cant believe how much I spent."
Writing in reply, one Instagram user joked: "Probably cheaper to fly first class!"
A second person added: "Thats why I mainly take my own snacks. But I do like a Boots meal deal at the airport."
However, a third pointed out to Carmie: "You bought four drinks, I thought drinks are included on a long haul flight, most people just get a meal deal or organised people take their own snacks."
While a fourth Instagram user exclaimed: "Omg no its not worth it. You couldve bought all the snacks before you went to the airport. Which would have probably cost you about 20."
WHSmith and Gatwick Airport were contacted for comment.
