The viral Starbucks bear cup quickly claimed internet fame for how rare it was to obtain after going on sale earlier this year, but Home Bargains now has a solution for those who missed out. The discount store is selling a similar version for a fraction of the price.
People could get the branded teddy-shaped 28 coffee cup for a limited time at UK Starbucks stores back in January. Like scenes in America, fans queued outside their local coffee shops in the early hours after reports that branches had only a handful in stock, leading to a one-per-person rule being put in place.
The clear glass cup, which sold out on the day of release, meant some fans never got one. But on TikTok, one shopper (@D.txx0) shared a display of similar-looking cups now on offer at Home Bargains for 99p.
The 99p cup is also available online, but is currently sold out. Shoppers can sign up for email alerts to be told when more become available.
Describing the Bear-Shaped Tumbler with Straw online, Home Bargains says: "Sip in style with this adorable bear-shaped tumbler, perfect for adding a splash of fun to your drinks wherever you are. Just fill it up, sip through the straw, and enjoy a splash of fun wherever you go - home, work, or out and about."
People were quick to react to the 99p version. Online, one shopper said: "Driving now to all of the Home Bargains near me! I need this!"
Another put: "Much cheaper and better for the kids because its not glass." A third wrote: "It looks so cute, and for only 1!"
The Home Bargains cup does not look exactly the same as the Starbucks option. It does not have any branding on its beanie hat or drink. Another difference is that the 99p cup is made from BPA-free plastic instead of glass. Some might also notice slight differences in the bear's face, such as wider-apart eyes.
Someone else was not convinced and said: "Is this real? Went to Home Bargains today and didn't find any?" And, another asked: "Is this deffo in the UK? I've been to three different Home Bargains and nothing there!"
In other Home Bargains news, shoppers can secure another look-alike for a fraction of the price. The homeware section recently introduced a 13 piece of wall art that "looks like" an 885 painting.
On TikTok, content creator @Homewithrox shared a video of the "gorgeous" piece with her followers. She claimed it looked similar to an 885 Studio McGee painting.
