A huge fire broke out near a Wetherspoons pub, with punters filming the dramatic scene.

The blaze tore through a property opposite Tafarn y Porth Wetherspoons in Caernarfon, Wales.

It is understood the fire was in an empty unit on Stryd y Porth Fawr. Fire crews and police attended the incident.

How the fire in Caernarfon unfolded

Reports of a fire in the centre of Caernarfon emerged at around 8pm this evening. Harri Jones shared a video from inside the Tafarn Y Porth Wetherspoons showing flames ripping through an abandoned unit opposite the pub.

It is understood it is a former cafe site that has been empty for many years.

Pubgoers watched in shock as the blaze took hold. There were also concerns about people living in flats above the unit and also nearby properties.

Firefighters and police responsed. Police cordoned off the areas and crews tackled the blaze.

They were able to quickly get the fire under control. It looks like nearby proerties were relatively unscatched, North Wales Live reports.

Pubgoers at Tafarn y Porth Wetherspoons in the centre of Caernarfon, North Wales, captured footage of a fire that tore through a shop unit this evening. Fire crews are at the scene tackling the blaze.

There were initial concerns for residents in nearby flats, but the fire has since been brought under control, North Wales Live reports.
