A woman was arrested after four men were stabbed with a weapon believed to be a pair of scissors in Covent Garden, central London, on Wednesday afternoon

A 47-year-old woman was arrested after four men were stabbed in central London in what police believe was an "isolated mental health-related incident".

The woman was arrested on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon believed to be a pair of scissors and assault following the Wednesday lunchtime incident in busy Covent Garden, an area filled with bars, theatres and restaurants.

Two men are being treated in hospital for injuries that are not life-threatening or life-changing, while the other two have been discharged.

The men are aged 34, 39, 42 and 52. The woman was detained by officers from the Metropolitan Police's Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection unit, who happened to be in the area at the time of the attack.
