A Place In The Sun star Laura Hamilton has shared an emotional message with fans after witnessing a death while filming in Montpellier, in southern France, this week. Taking to her Instagram page on Friday morning, the 44-year-old revealed she had barely slept because her "mind was racing" as she kept "really picturing the things" she had seen.

The presenter explained in a video: "Yesterday afternoon after I finished filming I headed to the beach and when I arrived there was quite a lot of commotion, didn't really know what was going on.

"It turns out that there was a fatality and it was kind of a crazy thing to see, I thought the individual was older than they were, it actually turns out there were a 19-year-old boy, they tried to resuscitate him, but they couldn't and sadly, he passed away.

"I can't begin to imagine what that poor boy's family are thinking and feeling this morning," she added. Laura went on to urge holidaymakers to be "really mindful" and "careful" around sea currents.

"If you're letting your children go into the sea, even as a grown up going into the sea, just be careful," she warned. "But it was a kind of crazy thing to sort of see and witness and it just reminds us all that life is short," she continued.

"We don't know what's around the corner, so make sure you appreciate the people in your life because nobody knows what tomorrow holds."

Many of the presenter's 241,000 Instagram followers flocked to the comments section to offer their support to Laura and pay tribute to the young man.

One person wrote: "Very tragic and sad for the family," while another commented: "That's awful Laura my heart goes out to the family."

A third added: "How awful for you to witness. Not surprising that you couldnt sleep, might be a few nights before you can. Great that you could make people aware of how cruel the sea can be."

A regular traveller for filming, Laura splits her time between the UK, Mallorca and Dubai. Two years ago, she took the plunge and bought a holiday home in Mallorca's Pollena Old Town and has been sharing updates with fans ever since.

The news comes just a day after two people tragically died after getting into difficulty in the water off Mersea Island in Essex.

Shelina Rhaman, 41, and her 15-year-old daughter Samiha died after trying to help her seven-year-old cousin.
