The body of an 11-year-old girl has been recovered from water near a woodland park in Scotland.
Police were called to the Gore Glen area near Gorebridge in Midlothian around midday yesterday following concerns for the girl.
The girl was found in the Gore Water near Shanks Bridge later in the afternoon and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The death is now being treated as unexplained by officers and an investigation is ongoing.
A Police Scotland spokesperson told the Daily Record: "We were made aware of concern for an 11-year-old girl in the Gore Glen area, near Gorebridge around 12.40pm on Thursday, 6 August, 2026.
"The body of the girl was found in the Gore Water near to Shanks Bridge around 4.25pm.
"She was pronounced dead at the scene and her family are aware.
"Her death is being treated as unexplained and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances."
